Pls help....wait for it.....with modem in DOS

I know that this may be really funny as a request (hell, i'm still not sure why I am even giving a damn going to this sort of trouble but that's what people do for family) but I need some help regarding getting an old prolink 1436es external V.34 modem to work in DOS. It's silly I know, it's outdated, but the fact of the matter is this guy just won't get into windows. The guy who writes and supports his bookeeping program hasn't made it for windows and who knows when he will. My unassuming family member basically doesn't even need windows for the small auto parts shop that he runs on this old rickety PC together with this bookeeping program. So that gets me to here......what is there left to do besides pray for an answer or just plain give up.

Any help is greatly appreciated.....

What exactly is it you need help with? Given the age of the modem, I'd assume that it still connects via serial right? You should be able to send modem commands from any DOS prompt via something like "echo ata > com1" which would make the modem pick up the phone line - assuming it's attached to COM1.

The bookeeping program is DOS based, the PC has DOS 6.22 installed. I assume that you would need a driver of some sort to allow the modem to accessed by something like pcanywhere or the like. Basically, to enable remote updating of the software is the main focus of this exercise.
