No more options about audio Y/N

I built my own computer about 8 years ago and alot has changed since then. I'm slowly building this one since it is going to be a gaming rig and due to expense. I was wondering why motherboards now and days have no option to have no audio. It use to be that you could choose to have it on or off. I bought a K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI last week with a creative chip since I could not find any with the option of none, that and it is an excellent mb. Creative has always made good audio cards. But wouldn't overhead be removed if there was no audio on the mb.

System Specs

Having on board sound has become inexpensive enough and more customers expect the feature to be there. Hope of selling boards to OEM's and other pre packaged deals also requires motherboards with integrated audio to be available. As long as the on board audio can be disabled in the BIOS the system won't actually waste any resources on it. Likewise one could also disable the serial/parallell ports because they are typically not used today.
