Dual core is where it's at.

I had a question about this too, games seem to run better on FX-57, that is until they have dual core support. But I would say 4800+ that's what I'm going to get when I upgrade, its more future proof, and will probably be more powerful than the fx-57 soon.

Personally, I'd go with the 4400+ and overclock it. Most of them overclock to about the same levels as the 4800+ and it's the Toledo core, so you get the extra cache, same as the 4800+.

The lower in X2 speed you go, the more you lose out when something doesn't actually benefit from dual core.
I guess there should be stronger support in future, for multithreading - until recently, other than the limited number of dual CPU systems, normally defined as servers, the only real pressure toward performance multithreading came from Intel's Hyperthreading technology. At the moment, the best that HT or dual core usually manages, is to keep the background tasks away from the foreground, other than in the very limited examples of multithread support. |

I'd hit a FX57 if you aim to play games. Depends on the purpose of the rig I guess.
