Abit NF8-V woes
Hello everyone.
I just completed my first build from scratch, took 3 days and a lot of frustration, but windows is up and I've reached the promised land of the internet. System: Abit NF8-V AMD Athlon 64 2800+ 80 Gig WD/160 Gig Maxtor 512 Mb Kingston HyperX DDR400 BFG Tech GeForce FX 5600 128 MB w/ an Audigy 2 ZS that won't be nice to me any attempt to play audio streams is met with a "no audio hardware available/responding", and the SB Audigy install disk tells me it can't detect any audigy on my PC. I think I need to update the mobo's audio drivers, the problem is that I'm not sure of the procedure. Should I just copy and paste into C:\WINDOWS\system32? Or is there an automated installer out there? To my shame, I never did master the art of unattended driver updates, so I would appreciate any help you could give me. Not nearly as frustrating is my PC's habit of booting up w/o sending my monitor a signal. Maybe 2 of every 3 times I fire it up, my monitor tells me that it is functional, but isn't getting a signal. Without changing any hardware, however, the same setup will POST on display. Has this happened to anyone else with an Abit NF8-V or NForce 3 chipset? Thanks in Advance -Verstehen |

Did you install the chipset drivers for the motherboard? Also, if you have onboard sound and the Audigy, you should probably disable the onboard sound in the BIOS.

I have installed chipset drivers, a couple of different ones, actually. I found NForce 3 audio drivers floating around in cyberspace, and they include .dll files, .sys files, and .exe's that simply uninstall the previous drivers. Can I simply copy and paste these, and if so, where to?
And yes, I've tried disabling the onboard sound. I think the problem is that my PC doesn't recognize that it has an audio controller, because it's fond of telling me there's no hardware hooked up. Previous attempts to install my Audigy were met with a "There is no Audigy hooked up" message. For the first time last night it recognized that the card was there, and allowed me to install it's drivers. After rebooting, however, SB Diagnostic tells me the card is not detected. Thanks for the post, hope to hear back from you. |

I would like to really know how your IRQ list looks, could you give us some details?

I'd be glad to, Necrosis, just let me find a util for it.
**Edit** Finally found the view setting in Device Manager, "Multimedia Audio Controller" and "NForce PCI System Manager are sharing IRQ slot 10. This doesn't not bode well, methinks. Any advice on how to fix it? Last edited by Verstehen; Aug 14, 2005 at 08:37 AM. |
