After getting the OS installed, pop in the 4in1's, then DirectX, then the video drivers. Then put in your sound card, then your modem or LAN, then goto Windows update and download your heart out. After that, put in any other cards or programs.
That's how I go about it anyway. Hope that helps ya! |

Yeah I'd go with Rayder's order. Since DX interfaces with the video and sound drivers, it would be best to have it already on the system.

cv
Well, direct x can be installed at any time, just like the rest of those drivers.
Really, it was recently where drivers got to the point where they didn't need to be installed in any order. Old guys just think like that still because of the windows of yore, you can install your 4in1s after everything else and never notice a problem. H'buey! |

So it is best to install 4in1 first.

I've found that installing the 4-in-1s first is always best. But that's just for me. I usually do the 4-in-1s first, and then do the display drivers, then Windows Update, then sound. But like I said...that's me...I'm sure any order works fine...

Here is my order that works great for me:
Install WinXP (with SP1 slipstreamed) Install DX9 Install 4in1 Install Graphics drivers Install Sound drivers There is a reboot after each stage.
