I think so, the MX518 does 1600dpi, and only the usb only does 125 reps/sec. The G5 does 2000dpi, and a whopping 500 reports/second. Now if that is noticable in the real world, we'll see.

Plus, being able to adjust the wieght, as well as adjust the sensitivity on the fly makes it a great gaming mouse.

Speaking of which, anywone wanna bet as to how long it will take for this thing to get banned from competition use?

As for the Icemat, as PJ said it should work fine on 2nd editions as they were redesigned for optical mice in mind.

My supplier mentioned to me that my cost on the G7 will be about $80 CAN when it comes in. The mouse is very hard to find right now, and where you do find it the price is just stupidly high. Shame too as I really want one of these puppies.. BADLY!

I bought the G5 mouse today, and must say that it is really responsive. It fit's really good (right handed only) material used on top of mouse is also really well done. The weight system is really nice too, the weight's come in a nice little silver box and there are 16 weight's in total, 8x4,5g and 8x1,7g

At this moment i have 4 of each inserted in my mouse and it feels heavier, but not disturbing heavy, without the weight's it is too light for me tbh.

Gonna test with different weight setups and see what comes out of it. It's also really easy to make you're own DPI settings with the setpoint software and you'll notice it immediatly when applied.
All in all a mice i can really recommend if you're an enthusiast gamer.

Side note, i had a Razer Diamondback before, but the G5 feels more complete and contributing the weight and size of both mouse made me switch to the G5.

I use the G5 on a transparant mousemat and no problems.. never had problems with the Diamondback either. Before the mousemat i used a white piece of really smooth wood. The friction and ease of use was phenomenal, have to look for that thing again.

As far as i know, they are the same, except for the wire offcourse So the responsiveness should be similiar.. But the wire on the G5 is not like on any other mouse. It's more stiff, but also longer and better material

I will though. Your right on the money, Sandok. It is the same software. It will autodetect what game you have, and adjust the sensitivity settings accordingly.
