gaming mouse mat

just got g7 mouse and have a icemat2
funny thing happens with g7,when surfing and doing general things on pc works great and when you put on a game and doesn't work at all,have a mx1000 and didn't have this problem
if in game and doesnt work on icemat2 and move moude to desk top,works fine and put g7 back on icemat2 ,doesn't work
so looks like l have to get new gaming mat
any suggestions
