??? 3500 slower than 2400?

Just upgraded from Asus A7n8x-E deluxe and Athy 2400 to A8V-E deluxe and 3500, kept the X800XL AGP and the ram from the previous rig, added an Enermax 465 power supply. Did a fresh Windows install added the latest 4-1 drivers, used Cat 5.10.

3D03 ran at 8790 on the old rig, now runs at 4490 with same settings on new rig. Anyone have any thoughts? HT is set at 400, will not run stable any higher, memory is set at 2:1 (Generic DDR 400)
Thanks.

Is that big of a drop possible with only a processor change? I've always thought that 3DMark primarily utilizes the graphics card, not the processor. Are the clockspeeds correct for processor, gfx core and gfx memory.

CPU is detected as 3500, The radeon speeds are 398 core, and 493 memory. I'm suspecting either the board/proc has a problem, or there is a BIOS setting that's not right. I haven't used a Via based board in a long time, so I'm not real up to speed on what's in the bios compared to Intel/Nvidia boards.

Bios version is 1010. I went this way because I couldn't wait for the money to go PCI-E video.
Sucks.

Accordingly to the Asus website the A8V-E Deluxe is PCI-E ?????

http://usa.asus.com/search.aspx?sear...earchkey=a8v-e

Yours is probably a A8V Deluxe ( no E )

Ok, most recent bios is 1014 and can be found here

http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us

It appear that some 3500 ( Athlon 64 3500+ (rev.E6) (Socket939) ) might need the most recent bios to run properly .

now go flash your bios !

Ooops...my bad...you're right.
To add fuel to the fire I installed a MSI 5950 Ultra and scored about 400 marks higher...
I knew there was a reason I stayed away from VIA...couldn't find an Nforce 3 board locally.

sorry to hear that but, with the new bios you should be able to keep the head over the water at least !

Now since you installed a NV card in it you should reformat the whole beat or at least dont forget to use DriveCleaner

http://www.drivercleaner.net/

good luck !

Updated bios as suggested...no improvement. Ran DC and put the x800 back in. Guess I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and go for a NF4 board and PCI-E card. Have to live with this in the mean time.
Thank you for your help.

Did you plugged the extra 12volt 4pin ??? Athlon64 need this to run properly . On your motherboard it is located right between the CPU socket and the i/o panel on the top of the mobo. Make sure that nothingelse is plugged with the video card .

If everything is off, I get about 10,000. But I usually run and test at 2XAA, 4XAF, and that's what I'm using as a comparison. Those were the settings I use all the time. I purchased some Corsair memory today hoping that may may a differance, since the system is not stable at any HT setting over 400.

Latest on this mess. Went to turn off system to install Corsair, the X800 would not come out of standbye. Re-set and Windows loads, but with a black screen. Tried to run a repair install of XP and it gets as far as loading files for install then gives a message that it could not determine my systems configuration and stops the install. Even with the new ram HT will not run higher than 400.
This is seriously messed up. system temps all look good, voltages according to the BIOS look good. All parts except mobo and Proc worked just fine before. Maybe it's the mobo? I'm clueless at this point.

The board goes back to Asus today. problems degenerated to the point where it posts then re-boots continuosly. Now I remember why I stayed away from Via chipsets, never had a problem with Intel or Nvidia chipsets.
