Dell OEM

I have a Dell computer. Ive pretty much changed all the hardware in it. Theres one more thing I want to change, and thats the case. Does anyone have any idea what kind of motherboard that is in a Dell? Its a Dell Dim 8300 (well..it was) and I want to buy a case, but before I go I want to know if its an ATX or ATA? Anyone have any idea at all? As this case is driving me nuts and its getting a little hot in there with all the upgraded hardware that Ive put in it over the past few months.

I used Everest but all it says for Motherboard is Dell OEM..anyone have any idea?

Could you post your service tag # to me in a PM? It's likely an ATX motherboard, but not sure - some are the type with riser cards for the PCI slots (can't remember the board designation right off, bu there's an N in it somewhere...) and I want to get a look at the service manual for your particular unit.

Sorry negster,

Got a look at the service manual - you've got a bit of an oddball mainboard there, 4 PCI and one AGP slots (5 slots total) - not a standard ATX or microATX mainbaord. It won't fit a standard ATX or micro-ATX case just right either. You probably ought to leave it in the case you have - maybe mod the case with a fan for cooling - a power supply upgrade will be difficult too, and more upgrades might cause you to be short of power for the components.

You should try a Dell card fan. I had an 8400 and the case got hot when I added extra drives, pci cards and a better video card. Check your manual... it will probably say something about it somewhere. My manual said something about a card fan, but Dell does not sell them on their website. I called about 10 times before I found someone at dell who knew what I was talking about... yeah wonderful tech service... lol

So anyway, the card fan is a blower fan mounted on a bracket that locks into the side panel right across the video card slot. It blows the hot air directly out the back of the case and is rather efficient. It also has a special connector that plugs into the motherboard. Dell uses propriotory (I can't spell...)

These fans are pretty hard to find so when I got rid of my dell i kept it. I actually still have it, I haven't gotten around to putting it on ebay. If you want it let me know.
