MoBO not finding CD-rom nightmare
recent mobo upgrade to v266b (crap i know, but it was given to me). Win XP loads fine off old HD, but doesn't recognize cd-rom or floppy. Says drivers are installed, but cant's find device (error 41). Can't flash bios cuz I can't make a boot disk. Any suggestions?

you probably need to perform an in-place upgrade (also known as repair installation or reinstall Windows on the same/existing folder). this to have the Windows setup program reenumerates PnP devices.
but you can try this first and see if this helps? try forcing those two devices (CD and Floppy drives) to identify themselves to Windows's PnP again. open Device Manager (Run... devmgmt.msc), at Devices by type views click on + sign front of the DVD/CD-Rom drives and Floppy disk controllers, then R-click on the devices under them, and select Uninstall (each one of them). and then... close the Device Manager and reboot your computer. the Windows PnP start over for the devices again upon Windows startups. or, close and reopen the Device Manager, then click on the Computer and go to Action menu and select 'Scan for hardware changes'. |
