GA-7VAX...No divider in the BIOS?

I wanna up the FSB on a processor. It can be done with the "CPU Host Frequency Controller." But here's the deal. It only lets it be changed from 133 - 165 at the max. The max is 165 and cannot be changed higher than that.... What's the deal? Do I not have divider settings?

I noticed once that my Albatron KX400+ Pro would only go from 100 - 132 mhz.... I puzzled for a while and finally realised I had forgotten to change the jumper.... just a thought.....

I have no jumper to change for FSB....it's either 100 or auto. I have it on auto.. Although I have not tried an unlocked CPU on this board yet. Also I have updated to the latest bios....neither have BIOS multiplier control. I guess my board just doesn't support it alltogether.

I looked up your board on the Gigabyte website... there is a jumper onboard... dip switch actually.... SW1... use this to set your FSB to 100, 133 or 166.... for 166 set to: 1:OFF 2:ON.... lookt it up @ http://tw.giga-byte.com/support/support.htm ... under the user manuals section... page 9..... on pg 7 u can see where it is on the motherboard...

Yeah, I know that.. First and foremost...my board is the GA-7VAX....i only have one switch, between 100 and auto. The GA-7VAXP and higher model can choose 100, 133, 166....for me it is just 100 or auto. And I already knew about all that stuff. It just is plexing to me that there is no BIOS multiplier....booooo

I believe that the GA-7VAX and the GA-7VAXP boards are differentiated by RAID and Firewire (I briefly owned VAXP model, but could not see the BIOS with my 8500)... The VAX model is still based on the KT400 chipset from Via and therefore supports 100, 133, and 166 FSB speeds as well as 200Mhz and above ... suitable for PC1600, PC2100, PC2400, PC2700 and PC3200 (probably more as well)... if you cannot achieve 166 mhz FSB at all, then I suspect u have a faulty board (this I doubt)... I would encourage you once again to refer to the manual I suggested, it is for both GA-7VAX and the GA-7VAXP motherboards... when 133mhz is set @ SW1, the BIOS will allow u to increase in 1 MHZ increments up to 165 (as u stated), in order to change from 166 - 200 and above u have to change SW1... I think you may be mistaken in thinking that its 133 or auto... I may be wrong.. (but I'm not).. haha... Good Luck!

One more thing... from the manual...
Socket A processor
AMD AthlonTM/AthlonTM XP/ DuronTM (K7)
128K L1 & 256K/64K L2 cache on die
200/266/333<Note 1>MHz FSB and DDR bus speeds

Note 1
"FSB333 MHz only support DDR333 DIMM module."

hope it helps

OK, something else occurred to me, if all you can select is either 100 or auto or 133 or auto (your posts say different things)... if there is an auto setting then u may have to connect L12 bridge ot get it to default to 166 FSB.... I think this is only valid for T'Bred B.... read this: http://www.techconnect.nl/modules.ph...rder=0&thold=0

again, hope this helps

The SW1 dip switch only selects in the off position, auto. In the on position 100.

Also I only have one dip switch at SW1.... There is ONLY ONE SWITCH... YES the manual shows two. But there is only one on my board. I can see the connects for where they would solder the second...but it is not there, contrary to what the manual shows. And on that page in the manual about the SW1 switch, it doesn't differentiate between the different board models.

Hmm... thats odd, but makes sense in that u wouldn't be posting for aid if it were so simple, now would you? If auto is ur only choice, then u will have to connect the third L12 bridge to default to 166mhz FSB.... again perhaps only works with T'Bred B....

I wonder why Gigabyte did that?

GIgiabyte Easytune

It's very likely that from the sounds of it you have a Gigabyte "-1" board like me...I have the Gigabyte 7ZX-1 - which I kinda got shafted with when I bought the comp....the -1 model which the ppl installed doesn't support 133 FSB or the Dual Bios etc...

but personally if you're using a Gigabyte board the best way I've found to change FSB speeds is to download their EasyTune program...lets you do it right from windows and can even set it in the bios so it's in effect on every reboot, even if you're bios doesn't have the option on the menu

Been there done that. Once I changed the FSB to 166 it didn't kick in the next divider. So it would just hard lock on me. Can someone close this thread? I don't have this mobo anymore. The problem has been solved also.
