will any 2 memory chips say same brand and part number run dual channel or do ya need special dual channel memory

Dual channel operation is dependent on the motherboard/chipset/memory controller (for AMD Athlon processors...) - not the DDR ram itself.
Use the same make and speed chips and if the chipset on the mainboard supports dual channel operation it should work. You do have to put the memory modules in specific slots on the mainboard - the information will be in motherboard documentation.

it's recommended that you have both memory chips of the same brand/size/speed/revision etc. so that you don't run into any memory issues even if your MoBo doesn't support dual channel.

Best idea is to buy a kit then you don't take chances, but I have seen same speed/latency rated chips from different manufacturers work in dual channel just fine
