that's what i thought. i had an issue with a psu last night if you read any of my other posts and it turned my udma lite-on dvd drive into an ata44 drive. i do remember that before i upgraded my bios it said umda dvd, so it sounds like that crappy psu i bought did something. i had some help from toshiroco earlier and he said that things like this happen when the psu doen't supply enough power. it was a 400 watt psu and my old one was a 300 which worked fine, but i wanted to add some more stuff to my machine and thought that i would run into problems if i didn't change it. well it looks like i ran into problems by changing it.
i just wasn't sure if this was something new that was out or what. i mean i've been working on computers for 5+ years now and never in my life saw this one.

he...that would be cool. hey do you know of any drive flashing experts? i've been trying to get some answers about flashing my dvd drive or any drive for that matter and i was trying to see if i was doing something wrong. i followed through with instructions from lite-on's web site, but it kept crashing in the middle. it still works, but i'm wondering if it will have an ramifications down the road.
if it ain't broken keep working in it till it is. then i know not to do that to machines i build for my customers.

louie...the lite-on dvd flash is actually done in windows unlike the some older dvd drives. and i too use that boot floppy you sent the link too.
one of the best! thanks for your help!toshiro...yea i was wondering if i needed to change that...i came across some old web sites that stated to change it to pio. and thanks for your help as well. and thanks for your help with my motherboard issue this morning. i brought the psu back in and since this is not the only time this problem has happened with this particular model they refunded me the money on the psu and i will find out more tomorrow as the store manager is calling the corporate hq to see what else he can do for me since the mb's bios is acting up. from the other problems he has seen with this particular psu they have all been intel boards, so i'm starting to wonder if it as something to do with the extra connector the intel boards have from the psu. all the other machines that have been successful with this psu have been amd machines. the psu says it is made for intel and amd, but it is my theory for right now and the store manager didn't give that a thought on past experiences. well, i will let you know tomorrow what they will do with helping me some more. thanks again! |
