Microsoft co founder Paul Allen is undergoing treatment for non Hodgkin's lymphoma, according to a spokeman for his investment company.
Employees of Vulcan Inc. which Allen founded in 1986 were informed of his illness via email yesterday. "He's feeling pretty good, he's remaining very active at Vulcan and his other holdings and interests and he has no plans to cut back on any of that," said Vulcan spokesman David Postman.
Paul Allen is still the 32nd richest person in the world according to Forbes magazine - he started his career as a co founder of Microsoft with Bill Gates in 1975 and resigned 8 years later in 1983. He already has had treatment for Hodgkin's disease in 1983 and the cancer was successfully treated.
Via his company Vulcan, Allen has been a very high profile investor in his home city of Seattle. He created the Experience Music Project pop museum in the city and is a minority owner of the Seattle Sounders soccer (football) team. He is heading up the development of a run down area close to Seattle's Lake Union into a center for biotech research.
