GTX 350 will kick major ass.
Have you guys heard of the specs? It's supposedly coming out Q4 2008.
GT300 core 55nm technology 576mm 512bit DDR5 2GB memory, doubled GTX280 ![]() 480SP doubled GTX280 Grating operation units are 64 the same with GTX280 216G bandwidth Default 830/2075/3360MHZ Pixel filling 36.3G pixels/s Texture filling 84.4Gpixels/s Obviously, this is Nvidia's reply to being owned by ATi's 4870X2. However I think the next round of cards will be entirely composed of Nvidia ownage =) Edit: Here are the sources! Nvidia’s new flagship card is the GTX 350 Seriously Unreal Product List techPowerUp! Re: GTX 350 will kick major ass.
Well I don't think its entirely fair to say they were "owned". remember the 4870 X2 is 2 cores, not single, so a lot of the performance is going to be reliant on the drivers. Also the price is considerably higher.

For the mid-high end market, It's a toss up between the GTX-260 and the HD4870, but below that the HD4850 beats its nearest competator the 9800GTX+ in performance and price. Nvidia need to hope that they can produce a "GTX 250" or similar using the 55nm tech, around the same price as the 4850 but with the better tech that the current GTX line uses, should be interesting.

Re: GTX 350 will kick major ass.
Well, if it comes out in Q2 '09, I might actually be ready to upgrade by then! My 8800gtx is still kick'in tunes even while being fed by a X2 and pushin' 1920x1200...
Thought about one of them 260+ models... Obviously I have 2, 6 pin pci power runnin' my 8800, and there for a minute I thought a 260 would be a good upgrade path... But the performance improvement over whats goin on with my 8800 just isnt worth $300 right now! I really hope Nvidia will focus a little more attention to energy conservation this next round. I dont want to have to pedal a small generator to power my frag fest... ~~MG~~

thought they were going to do a 55nm vers of the 260/280 this year?

Bah, Less power and lower temps is one thing. 55nm still doesn't change the performance differential for us 8800 early adopters...(albeit OC potential is a different matter in its own). Maybe I just need to plot my GTX's untimely demise... ![]() Oh how I hate the upgrade bug.... ~MG~

lol know what u mean about 'upgrade bug'.
usually a die shrink gets a perf boost & a price drop on top of what u said. usually being the operative word of course

i need to get me one of those....
a single powerful core is always better than 2 separate cores currently

Re: GTX 350 will kick major ass.
I don't need to remind you about the trend in CPU World? A single superfast CPU is WAY slower than a slow dualcore. Only they need to optimize the software. GPU maker ATi is about to do the same with their profiles for the videocards.

Re: GTX 350 will kick major ass.
and thats going to be a while off before any multi GPU card can really stand on the same footing as an equivalent card with a single GPU.....
its always easier to code for a single GPU because of the lack of complexity the fact that multi-GPU technologies arent universal makes things even slower when coding drivers or a game the way a program addresses a CPU is universal because an OS really doesnt need specific drivers to address an AMD CPU vs an Intel one comparing a CPU to a GPU is comparing apples to oranges..... a CPU is read by the motherboard and the OS reads the core(s) on CPU A the same as CPU B and processes are done in the same exact way... difference being how the CPU architecture handles bits of data as it stands now, a single powerful GPU will be better than 2 weaker GPUs in unison because the system loses no performance addressing 1 GPU vs 2+ as it avoids the flaws that are not only in the GPU drivers but in the games a person plays when you say optimizing drivers.... youre basically saying for ATi/Nvidia as well as the game developers to code their products for the proprietary multi-GPU technology that their cards use..... since not all companies will be as willing to do that.... that leaves the consumer with the many GPUs in a ditch. games dont see multi-GPU set A the same as set B because of how the drivers and game control them so while say..... a set of Nvidia cards blows the doors of a set of ATi cards in Crysis, the ATi Cards are better at UT3 as an example. when it goes down to it, if there were only one GPU to address.... the game runs smoother and its really down to the hardware itself since ALL games run well on one powerful GPU without question. until ATi and Nvidia can work out some kind of universal GPU interconnect bus that relies on a standard set of drivers to run, were not going to see any 100% effective GPU arrays out there for a long time

Assuming I don't win the X2 from DH I'd like to get a 260GTX Core 216...I can't hold out for a GTX 350 no matter how much ass it kicks

well it IS the best value in the high performance section of cards..... it crushed the 4870 and OCs like dang.....
too bad nothing competes all too well with the 4850 that much

This article is a different question, but relevant. And, as for graphics, in the current world we see 4 teraflop quad crossfire configurations being matched or beaten by tri sli configurations of less than 3 teraflops. Again, there is much more at play here, but even so, GPU's have never scaled better accross multiple cores as within one core. We see results that suggest this with comparisons like 9600 SLI vs 9800GTX, but the combined power of the 9600s will not walk away from the similarly powerful 9800gtx, despite having more of everything except stream processors.

But then we've seen Nvidia reveal 2 new generations of graphics cards in less than a year, compared to none in the previous 18 months, so who knows.

Re: GTX 350 will kick major ass.
the HD2900, HD3800, HD4800 series are not ALL that much different aside from revising the generations, fixing the problems and whatnot. It was kinda interesting seeing how similare R600 and R700 are
R800 will or at least SHOULD be 100% major change providing a completely real new chip. It's no so much different then a x1800-x1900-x1950 really.... if you were to look at what has happened previously, course they kept them all within the same R5xx lineup. the GTX350 does look mighty, and no doubt atm, the current GTX280 looks like the most efficient working solution compared to the amount of brute force ati have to push for to get the results that can beat it. Really to bad the 2900xt wasn't able to make use of it's specs. A well maybe the R800 will resolve those problems and be tuned...

Since this thread is a bit old (tech news wise), what is the latest expected release date for the GTX 350?

It won't be called GTX 350 but GTX 285. And the dual GPU will be called GTX 295.

Re: GTX 350 will kick major ass.
well you see this is the problem. legit sites like us adhere to NDAs and are told we can't do xx and xx.
Then we get sites like this that just post whatever they want. Sometimes i wonder if its worth the effort. |

Re: GTX 350 will kick major ass.
I'd like to see a GTX295 review that goes into a bit more depth, but I guess I have to wat for the DH article for that
![]() Using their not-quite-best core is a clever move by Nvidia - it leaves room for a more powerful 240sp dual GPU card later on, and allows them to keep a more elegant high end single GPU card in the running.
