The official "I got a 7900 GT/GTX" thread

Well, since many people have started getting those beasts, I thought I'd be a good idea to have another sticky so you can brag and make people jealous

So post away!

not impressed with BFG. Cap fell off as soon as i took it out of the box. Although I soldered it back on without a hassle. This things run mightly cool to boot. With my modded VF700Cu stock it doesn't reach higher than 41°C

I also can overclock to 580/878 (know i can take it higher but that is the sliders maximum lol).

hey guys..i was told to come here for some advice with my 79GT.....

i had it and i did a 1.4V mod to it usin some conductive ink...it worked...WOOT then i was bored someday and did it too 1.5V and it toped out to 75 C...so i used some alchol and got it off...now at 1.2V i got at EVGA's stock settins and when i try to OC it more i get loads of green and red and blue dots all over the screen at destop.....????

any thoughts what could have happended....it runs at load around 55 C...so its not overheatin... i think i hurt a somethin like a cap......

Are you sure you removed all the conductive ink off the board, and never touched the ink to any other points except for the soldering points they you were suppose to? This site doesn't have a whole lot of hardware guru's like xtremesystems.org has, might want to check with them, as it definately doesn't sound driver related.

BTW what clocks were you able to do @ 1.5V? I am currently @ 1.4V and it does 666/1920.

Me? Jealous? Nahhh, nothing wrong with my GeForceFX5500 It`s a great card. It`s just not very good at running Oblivion, F.E.A.R and it prolly aint gonna run S.T.A.L.K.E.R when that gets released WTF? where did that come from? WTF? Alright, alright, so . I don`t care, go ahead and laugh, But I`ll have the last laugh when I get my Nvidia 89000

My preciousss should arive on monday. Had waited like forever for 7900GT's to get in stock, and when seeing dates being pushed back at all major nordic firms to may or even june(!) I got aggrevated and ordered a 7900GTX that at least was available in low numbers. I had kinda sworn to never pay this much for a card, but my anger helped me sway to the dark side.

This also meant that I had to settle for a single core Athlon64, but I just couldn't stand waiting any longer. Last night I had a dream about that system playing Oblivion.

what settings are you running it at? I still get choppy with my 7900GT @ GTX clocks @ 1280X1024, large textures, HDR, fully tweaked .ini. Maybe my single core p4 is holding me back though

I have it setup for standard INI. I turned HDR and 1280x1024 (my lcd size) and set the textures on medium. Have not tried large. everthing else is pretty maxed. I get a little stuter when i go to wide open areas.

In some areas Oblivion ought to be a massive CPU hog just as Morrowind was, like when looking towards the middle of a larger town with a number of people in the view. I'm sitting here sharpening my Blade of Woe before commencing a raid on the post office...

Edit: Raid was successful. The XFX 7900GTX sure is a well built card.

Ordered an XFX 7900GTX yesterday. Seems to be a nice card and I can't wait to try it out. Should be interesting to se how it performs compared to my X1600XT

Performance wise it will blow it away.. image quality won't be as high unless you turn ALL the speed up optimizations off-- but even then the 7900 will be very fast, so not to worry.

Hmm sounds cool. I will hopefully get the card this friday, so that I can test it over the weekend.

I should have mine within a month or so- I only have until May 24th to do the trade up program, at EVGA.. but I need to buy an old PCI card first so I can at least use my PC.

edit- and I can't wait!

Did you run any benchmark? Like 2005 and 2006? How about OC'ing it? Just wondering, if you do OC, how fast does it go?

And congrats..

I ran 3D Mark 03 and got around 22.000 points. And that's pretty good compared to around 9.000 points with the X1600XT
