7950 OCing

Hey I got the XFX GeForce 7950 Gx2 Xtreme edition ( 520/650 ) and I want to overclock it lil bit more. Any suggestions on what to use/do to have it stable? I ran nTune to see if it would adjust the GPU speeds but didn't do anything. I can change the speeds manually till PC reboots, but can I just set the clock speeds to 570/700 which is the XFX XXX edition is set at and still be stable? Any suggestions is appreciated. Thanks

to check for stability of the card itself, you can run the RTHDRIBL benchmark and just keep it looping over and over again.

for overclocking, google search for Coolbits2. If you don't like how that works out for you, then try Riva Tuner and see if you like that better.

As for the stability of the card at 570/700, that is all based upon if the card can actually take those speeds. Not all cards can. OCing is basically hit and miss, and that is true for anything that can be OCed. But, try those, and even if you can't get the 570/700 clocks you desire, even if you OC your card an extra 10Mhz core and 20Mhz RAM, just be happy that you can OC it that much more .

Yeah Coolbits didn't do anything, I got nTune installed so it gave me same options because I didn't see any new ones. But I installed RivaTuna and I set the speeds to, 570 / 710 ( i could of gotten higher mem. speeds but on the nTune moniter it was yellow so just to be safe kept it at green) and so far everything is fine but still need to load a game up, lol. The nTune moniter shows everything Green so hopefully its all stable since the PCI-E bus speed and CPU bus speeds got OC aswell in the nTune Performance run. Time to do the real test now, playing a video game!

Loaded up World of Warcraft, didn't see any artifacts, good fps.

My temps arein celcius)

Cpu: 33
System: 34
Gpu1: 54
Gpu2: 60

Here's a picture:

The Gpu temps are higher ofcourse, range from 54-68. I'm not quite sure how hot it gets but I know it will be not as hot as " will burn up " lol, I got nice fan cooling. So this sys tweak turned out good I think. :o

the GPU can get as hot as 85C before you should be concerned w/gfx card temps . so, your temps are just fine .

and i didn't say coolbits....i said coolbits2. coolbits2 solves many issues known in coolbits

Hmm.. Need for Speed: Carbon , my gpu goes up to 80C .. Ekk.. should I be worried? I don't think it goes over 80C.

No need to worry, 80c is within range for these cards. As for OC'ing, I've always used Coolbits with no issue. Many of these can do 600/800 but having a large quiet fan blowing on it is a good idea.

Edit- They also like fast pcie speeds so try running it at 110-120MHz and see how it does. It might even help with OCing

Yeah, as you can see on the picture I shoulded the PCI-E bus speed by default was 2500 now its 2850 . I also got a fan blowing right on the side of the gx2. Just to say one more time, everything is working great :P
