Video Output / Control Panel Problems. Please Help.
Ok, this has been driving me MAD for days now. I have two seperate, but perhaps not unrelated problems; I am using the latest Nvidia drivers, 97.31 Forceware for my Nvidia 7600GS, and what I'd like to get fixed are...
1.) I've an umarked generic from Tiny Computers in 2001, so I cannot find true color settings for it. To compensate for the darkness of this monitor, I have been ramping up Gamma via the Nvidia Control Panel. Under the old "Classic" panel, you could set Gamma for all the various channels under "Adjust Desktop Color Settings". It would load as a profile at Windows start up, but it would not apply to video, at least in the first window opened. To illustrate what I mean, lets say I open an .avi file in WMP10: It appears in a window without the gamma changes applied, as a much darker video. If I open it again whilst WMP10 is still running, the second window will display correctly. It does this across all movie players, and for a good number of Nvidia drivers now, but sadly i can't take a screenshot to show this because the first window always appears black when Print Screened, as you can see here: http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/7517/moviesux4.jpg WMP10 is the only free player which allows you to compensate with brightness (that I've found), but it's annoying to have to keep changing this manually for every individual movie file. Which leads to the second problem... 2.) Under the new "Modern" UI, you cannot set the gamma for individual channels, and although there now a seperate slider for video under "Adjust Video Color Settings", Gamma is greyed out due to "Overlay is disabled, no controls available". So I have been experimenting with other settings, and frustratingly, any settings changed here dont seem to be able to be saved in any way: They are also not part of the color profile loaded at Windows start up, even when resaved. Indeed, even clicking Apply and just closing the NVIDIA Control Panel cancels the changes to the video display. However, when the Panel is open, movies opened will appear with the correct Gamma applied... So my questions are basically: How can I ensure video displays in the chosen gamma, without having NVIDIA Control Panel open, or having to keep manually correcting it in WMP10, or opening a second movie player window to change them? Is there anyway to force NCP to keep applying it when closed and to video too? Thanks in advance for any help which can be offered! |
