I've been experiencing similiar problems with choosing a 8800 GTX. I've looked at the cheapest and also which manufacturer gives the best warranties. Sometimes it's hard knowing which is a better way to go. Sometimes the old adage "You get what you pay for" applies when it deals with computer parts, I've found out. ![]() drwho

I just called Nvidia and a very nice woman told me that the winXP x64-bit driver will not be ready until the end of january. A little upset about this considering i just bought the winXP x64 thinking that it would have worked fine with the 8800GTX. Now i find out that the 8800GTX drivers are available when Microsoft vista is launched. I find that to be a bit cheeky on Nvidia's part.
However, if every Video card is the same in essence then can I not download the driver from the Palit website: http://www.palit.com.tw/en/support/driver.html They seem to have one ready Last edited by TurfTavern; Dec 5, 2006 at 04:51 AM. |

Doesn't really matter as they are all made by the same company right now. Pick the one that is cheapest and/or best warranty.

I went with XFX due to the double lifetime warranty... best warranty available.
Although BFG was tempting and eVGA were very tempting with their upgrade scheme! |

The "double lifetime warranty" from XFX as i understand is that the original purchaser of the card has the lifetime warranty to boot, but if you sell it, the warranty carries over to the next buyer. If they sell it, then it no longer has warranty.
eVGA is the only company that has 24/7 tech support tho .

The only difference between the 8800's are basically the brand name / stickers / warranty / packaging etc etc ??... they all use the same board ??
this is what I have read anyhow..

not eVGA, that is unless you purchase a board that specifically says "EGS" on it. I'm talking about the products as a whole here, not specifically the 8800. Only the products labled "EGS" on them are built the way that NVIDIA specified, all the other products are modified in some way to give better or lower performance.

my Xpert Vistion 8800GTX is every bit Nvidia Spec, clocks are GTX clocks. not underclocked or overclocked, why would a company underclock a specified spec ? |

EGVA is your best choice for support and close to exact building. I talked to alot of computer techs before I bought mine and 80% of them or more said EVGA. Their support is great except for Vista drivers in the RC2 format, running 1 gig of memory and can't wait to see this baby rock. According to a MS tech that knows someone at nvidia he told me a vista driver for RC1 and 2 32 and 64 will be release between 18 and 23 of December 2006, They already have devoleped it and it was going to be released 4 Dec but their were some clocking problems and they are re-tweaking. He also said in direct 10 testing with flight sim X it was unbelievable. I am a flight sim fan and can't wait. By the way I paid 699.00 for my card 8800GTX so I hope I got what I paid for. If anyone hears anything different please let me know and I will tell you what I know. Thank You Jaye
