Was the Palit they reviewed a Sonic version of the card, and yours a normal one? Palit make better versions of some cards called "Sonic" (eg. Palit 7600GS Sonic), these give faster performance than normal cards.

Do you have all of your mobo drivers and graphics drivers completely updated?
And yes.. that card in the review was a Sonic card...

Well, what people mean by motherboard drivers is usually all of the drivers needed to properly run each component. So... in your case, the sound, LAN, SATAII, RAID, audio, and AGP all matter.
Just get the appropriate one of each and make sure you're all updated. Just make sure you cleanly remove your old drivers using DriverCleaner (obtainable from www.drivercleaner.net).

I would assume no, but you'd have to ask ASRock about that one.
But, I'm pretty sure it's a no.

i got a PNY 7900GS while it plays nice with everything i run its a bit slow. i just switched to PCI-X and was hoping for better performance, but to tell ya the truth i should of just waited and got a 8800, atleast i would of been ready for D3d 10. i think part of the problem is the mobo, im running the gigabyte P965 S3 and i beleive i should of waited on that too and sprung for the 975.
check this out: my old system i just replaced 3dmark05 Score: 5710 Date: 2005-11-12 CPU: Intel Pentium 4 3208 MHz GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT 410 MHz / 1080 MHz OS: Microsoft Windows XPRes: 1024x768@32 bit my new system: 3dmark05 Score: 4357 Date: 2007-01-20 CPU: Intel Core 2 2208 MHz GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS 482 MHz / 675 MHz OS: Microsoft Windows XPRes: 1024x768@32 bit |

There is NO WAY that your new system would run slower than your old system.
A 7900GS will dominate a 6800GT, and a Core 2 Duo will run WAY faster than a P4. Something is definitely wrong with the score there....

I think 3DMark06 will give you the biggest comparison between the two cards. IIRC, the 7900GS is better than the 6800GT in SM2.0 stuff, but seeing how the 7 series handled SM3.0 than the 6 series, the 7900GS should kill the 6800GT there. But I was incorrect it my last post when I said a 7900GS will dominate a 6800GT. It'll be better, but not as drastically as I think you were looking for.
