Thumbs Down! A little help? 7800GS low framtes :(

Hi all I apologise profusely if I'm posting in the wrong area. I'll try and tell you as best I can what my problem is. I'm a noob ya see. I've tried a few games and they all seem to run fairly well, however my problem is when I play any source mods. My fps goes as high as about 120 but then drops down to about 15! It doesn't seem to make any difference what resolution / settings I use as I've played around with them. I wasn't sure if this was a hardware or software issue. I tried installing the latest nvidia drivers but it doesn't seemed to have made any difference. Anyone experienced this?

Operating System: Win XP

CPU (Processor): Intel P4 3Ghz

Motherboard: ASRock P4I65G

RAM: 1GB DDR (not sure what it is but it's a bit turd I think)

Graphics Card/s Installed: BFG 7800GS 256mb (agp)

Power Supply: I'm a bit lost here, I know it's 500 - 550watts though.

Also what the heck happened to the title? lol

That is weird, try syncing your FPS to monitor's refresh rate.(just a guess) It's called Vertical Sync(turn it on)

I've played around with vertical sync and there's no change. I'm playing on 1024 x 768. I've tried running it at 800x600 and it's made no change.

Ok for both slots, which are 2x512 I have:

Type: DDR
Channels#: Dual
Performance mode: Disabled

Timings

Frequency: 160mhz
FSBRAM: 5:4

2.5 clocks
4 clocks
4 clocks
8 clocks

Individually they both say they're PC3200 (200mhz) and they're not registered or buffered.

I hope this helps.

it's either the p4's fault or some massive area that demands ram

surely it's fine on a small map/mod right

Mmm I wanna but it may bite me in the ass if it doesn't resolve my problem :S. I'll have to try it on HL2 itself see if that lags at all.
