EVGA 8800GT fanspeed BIOS update

It's just under a month old but I only just found it and maybe not everyone was aware so thought I would post.

8800GT BIOS update and instructions

Quote:
We have released a new BIOS's for the EVGA 8800GT's that makes some adjustments to the fanspeed autosensor.

Basically the fanspeed ramps up quicker, and more gradually as the temperature increases. This update can lower the GPU operating temperature by about 10c under load.

Also, all new EVGA shipping boards will have this change in place, we have this posted for those of you with existing cards. You can find this BIOS on the EVGA downloads page, or below.

This BIOS is for those who wish their fanspeed to spin up quicker, there are no other changes.

As soon as I saw this thread I knew I had forgotten to do something.

I think this is actually an 8800GT wide bios update, as a couple weeks ago BFG did the same thing for their low end OC card, which you can get right HERE.

A word of warning: there have been many complaints with BFG 8800GT OC/OC2 cards as it seems that BFG used cheap logo stickers on their fans. I know... sounds ridiculous, but apparently the faster speed of the fan is forcing the sticker to slip off. Since the fan is sucking air in the sticker gets sucked into the fan, and sure enough, it seizes up.

The advice is: if you are going to up the speed on the fan above 75%, as well as use this bios update (which can increase the fan above that), remove that sticker regardless of the brand of card.

I sure hope it doesn't void my warranty to remove that sticker, cuz that would just suck @$$ if it did.
