8800GT to HDTV

Hiya,
I've got a XFX 8800GT sitting in my rig and I was wondering what is the best way to connect it to a TV to be able to play HD movies on it (if it can be done) My TV has an HDMI, 2 component and a VGA (no DVI). The card has 2 DVI outs and an s-video. My card came with 2 DVI to VGA adaptors and a S-Video to Componet adapter.

Any help would be great. Cheers
Iain

Cool. Didn't know they were basically the same signal (just different connectors). Cheers buddy!

For digital that'd be the way to go, but you can also get a straight DVI to HDMI cable to simplify things. Or since the TV has a DSUB (VGA) connector, you could do VGA to VGA for analog. In both cases you will also need to output the audio from your sound card to the TV.

On the more expensive side you could get what's called a DVI Video and Audio to HDMI adapter like THIS one from Gefen. On one side is a DVI connector along with an SPDIF in, and on the other side an HDMI out connector. Great thing about it is that it makes things simple by incorporating the audio into the HDMI cable, so it's only one input you need to worry about, plus it's powered too, so you can use this with a computer that is a good distance from the TV without worrying about signal loss.

Brilliant! I've found a HDMI to DVI cable for NZ$39.99 it has a Male DVI so I'm guessing that would work?

I got an HDMI cable and the dvd-hdmi adapter for the pc end. GFX cards look like they are going to pop up with HDMI connections pretty quickly since its a nice standard. If you buy one with DVI on one end, you'd need a new cable rather than ditching the adapter if your next card has HDMI
