nVidia Geforce7800GS = ATi...?
I know Tom's hardware has graphs which gives details on graphic cards on different models but I would like to know what you people think about what the Geforce7800GS is compared to ATi cards when we speak about video playback performance. What is a good comparison?

![]() No, I will stick with my Geforce for the rest of this year, actually. I'm going for a whole new system sometime next year(hopefully, I'll see what happens). Then I will get pci-express. Less expensive graphic cards among other things. The Geforce7800GS has inbuilt support for high defintion video. It has pretty good performance for video playback. |

Here are some numbers. Not sure why you need this, any card you get at the time you make the new purchase will have (significantly) better video acceleration performance (just don't let anyone sell you a cheap 2900XT or 8800GTX/Ultra, those don't have complete video acceleration support that other cards from the same series and all newer ones do).

while the card may be HD capable, the card isnt like any of the newer G92 cards or R700 chips...
your CPU may be taking the majority of the rendering......

Interesting figures. Well... why I was interested in this is because one of my brothers has a ATi Radeon2900Pro in his new mac and I wanted to compare that performance against what I have with my Geforce7800GS.
Since I only have 1GB in my machine at the moment the harddrive is the most important component if one talks about performance no matter what I do. Also something which affects video playback. I have a pretty fast harddrive at the moment(with todays standards it's definitely not one of the fastest, though.) so it makes the PC usable even under heavy load. Windows is like a hog as most people know on this forum, I'm sure, but a fast harddrive helps a lot. |
