NVidia GeForce 6200 problems
im having some major problems with this videocard. when i try to play games, the frames start extremely low, then just completely stop, for like 2 minutes, then my screen goes black and returns, and repeats. everytime the screen returns i get a popup on the bottom by my toolbar saying "Display Driver Nvlddmkm has stopped responding and has successfuly recovered." im not sure if its the drivers, i went to the nvidia site and manually installed them for the GeForce 6 series, but still get the problem....i dont know if its the drivers, which is loacated in Windows\System32\DISPLAY\Nvlddmkm. Im using this card as a backup untill i can afford a GeForce 8800GT, since my old ATI card totally fried on me...

this error is typically a driver problem. however, it can extend from a driver problem to other components of your machine, first and foremost, the video card.
first, go into windows safe mode and uninstal, then update/change the driver. be sure to delete the NVIDIA folder in the C:\ drive and delete that folder from the recycle bin if it went there. if that still doesn't work, then overclock or underclock the video card just a tad, not a whole lot, just 5Mhz or so will do. if that still doesn't work, then try to change your memory timings and other settings a bit and see if that works. i've heard that people chaning their memory settings works for some reason....idk why or what happens other than it works for some people. next try updating your MoBo's chipset drivers. especially if you have an NVIDIA based chipset motherboard. lastly, try another video card in your machine and see what that does. hopefully, if none of the above worked then this last step here should. |

My brother had this problem with his 8600GS not too long ago. Turned out the card was shutting itself off due to high temps in his case so if you do all of what CDs said and still no cigar then look at the video card temps.

You also mentioned your ATI card fried, it could be possible it damaged the mobo in some way. That would really suck, but its possible, just something to think about.
