Quick sli question

Iam assuming that for sli one needs to just match the gpu's (lessor degree the mem).

So if i were to slap a bfg 8600 512 gts and say a Asus EN8600GT 512 iam laughing.

This of course needs a sli motherboard and connector (although i understand it can be with software now too)

To be perfectly honest i suggest that everything on the two cards you are putting in SLi are the same (make, model, ram, ~date made) much similar to RAM matching. I definitely do not reccommend putting a gts and a gt together.

This Wikipedia Link should give you some intresting points about sli.

It also answers your second part of the question.

Wierd.

Good old Wiki says that the same GPU model work together (e.g. G70, G73, G80, etc) regardless of bio's revisions or memory.

Yet i have been told that the gt and the gts wont work together in sli. (even if they are the same gpu)

Anyone know if this is correct or only true in the past when the drivers were less mature?

I'm not 100% on this because I've never really run across a system that uses different cards in an SLi setup. If they have similar specs and the wiki site says you can its always worth a try. I don't think that you can really run any repercussions like major damage from trying that. (but don't quote me on that)

You can use different makes, as long as they have the same GPU. The motherboard automatically runs both cards to run at the speed of the card in the primary slot. However, I would reccommend that you buy exactly the same board, this will make sure there are less problems.

It would seem in this case you can't.

Although they are technically called the same gpu its not the case.

One card (GT) is a G92 with 112 stream processors the other (GTS) is a G92 with 128 stream processors.

Just enough of a change to not allow sli to work between them.
