the 9800GTX would be the better card. the 9800GTX is pretty much a glorified 8800GTS 512MB with high clock speeds than the 8800GTS 512MB, so the 9800GTX will be the better card.

Just thought I'd mention that the 9800GTX is no longer available, or rather whatever is out there is the last of the stock. Nvidia shrank the chip, and by doing so allowed them to clock it up a bit (to 738mhz). They rereleased it as the 9800GTX+. Last time I looked it was about $200 US for the standard clock card, and $230 for the OC version (760mhz) from BFG.
It should also be noted that for a little bit more money, about $80 - $100 dollars in fact, you could grab the newer Nvidia GTX260, which is quite a bit faster than the 9800GTX.

@Tipstaff
well i dont think i can spend 80-100 Dollars More to get Nvidia GTX260 Couse my budget is Limited well @procupine14 Well as the shop told me if i put my fan speed higher than 65% they wont give me warranty and if i take the cooler off and replace it then there will be no more warranty? But My main question now is that if i go SLI with XFX geforce 8800GT Alpha Dog What Does it increase ? |

I would ignore their advice about the fan speed on the card itself, it is senseless. |

If I remember right (originally posted by CDs somewhere) the 8800GT can operate at over 100c and is perfectly happy at 80c. Cooler is obviously better for everything though. I run mine at high fan speeds when playing Crysis etc.

another option you can use, is get an EVGA card. The reason why is because they offer the step up program. So, you have the option to upgrade the card. You have 90 days from the date of original purchase to do so.
all you need to do is pay the difference in price. So say, you get the 9800GTX+ or 8800GT card, and you have 90 days from purchase date of purchase to upgrade to whatever other card you would like, say a GTX260 or GTX280 ![]() and yes, i did say that these cards can reach upto 100C and still be fine within normal operating temperatures. the video card's fan running at 29% all the time would require that it have a BIOS update so it can fix that issue. |

Guys, from searching in forums etc, several people say that the 9800GT is nothing but a rebranded 8800GTX, and the 9800GTX is a 9800GT with 1GB of memory. Don't know how much it is true...
Oh yeah, I am talking about mobile solutions.

I think that the 9800GTX is near the 8800GTX, but it may OC better. At the very least it should lower the cost of the (edit: 8800) GTX, so you may want to wait if cost is an issue.

the 9800GTX should be equal to or better than the 8800GTX in just about everything. perhaps not in the higher resolution range since the 9800GTX card only has 512MB of memory and having the additional 256MB that the 8800GTX has would sure benefit it at the higher resolutions, but it definately would be just as good a buy as the 8800GTX card.
