A 260GTX falls within your price range. Or for $390 you could pick up a BFG Tech BFGEGTX2801024E GeForce GTX 280 1GB after rebate (Newegg sale item).
Having said that, I would personally be very tempted by the ATI 4850/4870 for a bigger bang for buck.

So should I get either the 260/280? what about the 4870? and is the 9800gx2 out of the question?

The 9800gx2 is good, powerful card at a good price level. I get worried though when I read about some people having micro-stuttering problems but then this only seems to happen (if I remember correct) at higher resolutions than you will be using.

What does this do?

A 9800 GX2 would work a treat in most games at your res though. With a good PSU and decent case ventilation, they can overclock pretty well too. |
