??? My Bro's MSI Nvidia GF 3Ti 200 64MB AGP and Sideband addresing/Fastwrites question.

Hi all my Brother has a Compaq Presario 8000T that came with a MSI GeForce 3Ti 200 64MB AGP 4X passive heatsink cooling.

I checked the specs of the system and I help him do maintenance too.

System Specs are:

Intel Pentium 4 2.0Ghz CPU

Compaq Motherboard using an i845 based chipset, I updated the mobo Bios from 1.05 to 3.04 aka last Compaq Bios update for mobo.

AGP apperture is set to 64MB, Plug & Play OS Enabled.

512MB of system ram, have not yet checked what type of memory it is...

MSI GeForce 3Ti 200 64MB AGP 4X stock clock/memory 175/200 Mhz (400) no overclocking and original bios.

250W PS

Intake Fan, and outtake fan to maintain air flow.

WD 80Gig HDD 2MB buffer.

WinXP Pro SP1

Intel Chipset Utility Driver 5.0 or last version.

Intel Application Accelerator 3.2 or last version.

Nvidia 43.45 Det drivers.

My questions are:

Is there a Bios update that can be used with the MSI Nv card?

Why is Sideband addresing disabled?

Wouldn't Sideband addresing help improve performance?

Why is Fastwrittes disabled?

Wouldn't Fastwrittes help improve performance?

What is the best Nvidia graphics driver to use with GeForce 3Ti cards?

fast write is enabled on mobo
and side band wont help much just kill stabillty
if you wanna use it you need to edit a bios to use it

I don't agree with the Side banding part because both my Matrox G400 and ATI FireGL 8800 use Side Band Addressing and both run great.

However Fastwrites is not an option in the Compaq Bios menu.

hohum will become famous soon enough

Fastwrites needs to be enabled in the bios, then it (should) detect it and use it. As for sideband addressing, I don't think it can be used with a geforce 3 card - I had one not so long ago, and sideband addressing was greyed out when viewing agp options in control panel - I'm now using a geforce fx5600, and sideband is now available and turned on by default.

Hope this helps...

If its only on passive cooling throw a fan on it an overclock it. I put a fan on a voodoo3 3500 and got insane overclocks compared to everyone else with just a HS. I remember back when I had a voodoo 1 setup with no heatsinks or fans and a pentium 100 with only a heatsink. My dad sugested cutting aluminum blocks with strips in them to create heatsinks similar to the one on the pentium and then putting fans on them and attaching it to the voodoo cards. He also had the idea of putting a fan on the cpu. This was way before people put fans on chips. He also helped me build what I belive to be the first watercooling system for computers ever. I put it on a pentium 200.

Why do all of my posts keep getting so off topic???

I had a gf4 mx 440, i did a BIOS update and solved my problems. goto www.msi.com.tw download live update install it and check if it has a vga bios update available, if not u have the latest bios. possbily your board doesnt support those nice extras like sideband addressing and fastwrites. if u ask compaq if these options are support they should tell u, most of the jackases working there dont know or think your part of some friendly white family which uses crappy dsl internet, 6 pm dinners and the weekend cottage deal and dont want u to touch the bios. anyways give live update a try and compaq a call
