8600 GT XXX Driver problem

So here's an interesting one. Just installed all the new bells and whistles in my rig including a new Phenom, ASUS mobo, and HDDs. I reformatted and put Vista Ultimate 64-bit on this machine. Nothing is installed yet so we can rule out all of those suspicions. My 8600GT XXX edition XFX will not display anything on the screen after boot up (monitor receives no signal) when the Vista 64 drivers. I have tried drivers from XFX, allowed Vista to install its own (i was surprised it found some for itself) and used a program that loads the generic 8600 GT drivers. No luck on those three. What is causing this? and yes, it does function all the way up until I restart to finish installing the drivers. Which upon restart it fails to show anything past the initial windows vista loading bar.

I can get in to it in safe mode and delete/uninstall the drivers which of course fixes the problem of booting but I then don't have drivers so that's an issue

.....uh.....HELP!

I run the same video with Vista 64 Home Premium on my main system with no problems. Did you go into BIOS and change the video from on board to PCIe? If not try it and make certain to save and exit BIOS. Hopefully that should fix the problem.

See that's what I thought but as far as I can see on this motherboard there is no option for selecting one or the other. i am under the impression that this board is a completely automatic detection. But as soon as I get home I will check that again and update my situation.

update:

I also tried this with a 7600GT that I had lying around with the same result as soon as I install a video driver the screen stops displaying on boot up

[COLOR=blue]Initially i would try installing the driver, reboot then go into safe mode and remove the Physx driver then reboot, see if that helps at all.[/COLOR]

[COLOR=blue]Failing that i would also try some older driver revisions, something like 178.XX - see if that works[/COLOR]

Yeah I might start trying older drivers. I attempted to install drivers and removing the Physx driver but It doesn't allow me to uninstall or remove the files of any part of the Physx software in safe mode. This is also puzzling.

At the moment I am just running the onboard video on my motherboard which is working but is also ATi which could be the difference there.
