No signal imput 8800GTS 512
Hi all
I have a 8800gts of 512mb in my PC. I havn't had any problems with for over a year until yesterday. Playing a moddified version of Empire total war, afther a time a "no signal imput" error occures. Aslo, it now has occured a few times when not playing the game. The card now realy makes much noise so now and then(the fan speed drasticly increases). I've checked the card, and on first sight it doesn't look like a dust problem. I've installed new drivers, and I monitored the cards temp wile beeing under tests. The temp test seems not to work properly: It sais the card's temp goes from 13°C to 75° to 150° in a cycle of +- 15seconds all the time. The last thing I can think of would be the PS. It currently has a (I believe) 400W PS to supply the 8800GTS and a Q6600 processor. Maybe the power suplied is going down by time because I ask to much, and the PS is wearing off ??. I do have another 550 W PS lyingaround here, but it's a cheap one from ebay, and i'm not to keen on using it unless I have to. Does anyone here a kind of idea what the most likely reason would be, or is my card just slowly dieing ? Any help is welcome kind regards, John |

Re: No signal imput 8800GTS 512
the fact that the temps are swinging that wide in such a short time could be a sensor going south...... I agree that 150 is really hot....... don't like the sound of the fan doing that either..... again that could be a bad sensor.

If it is within the warranty period just give it to the reseller to check/fix it ,And DON'T RISK your card.

If it is under warranty I would RMA the card as comp_ali mentioned.

Re: No signal imput 8800GTS 512
thanks guys,
I'm in the middle of exams now, so I'm not going to take any immiate action. The fan now goes 100 percent all the time. I might want to take the card out to realy check for dust, becouse I can't see it that good wile beeing in the case. The card is, I believe, still in warenty. However, I didn't buy this thing nextdoor(Bought it from Berlin, I live near Brussels trough Ebay), So sending it and recieving would cost me +- 30€, So i'm not to eager for that either (still better then nothing). What I realy need to know is wheiter this behaviour can be explained by beeing underpowerd or not(becouse otherwise i'll try switch PSU). Also I said I had a 8800GTS512, well it's a 8800GT512(G8 series name's are a bit confusing :S) Cheers John |

Re: No signal imput 8800GTS 512
Also, I've checked the temps, they still go wacco. Ofcource, the value's they give are fals. From my judgement, the temps are between 45 and maybe 55 with the fan going full, maybe even alot less, but it's difficult to say.
This is what I get ![]() ![]() Seeing this, I ideed believe the sensor has gone to heaven... Can one replace such a sensor ? Don't know anything about those ... Also is there a program with wich I could overwrite the auto-shut down at higer temps (I think that causes the no singal imputs) Last edited by John C; Jun 12, 2009 at 07:25 PM. |

192 c and about 30000 RPM of system fan , that's very confusing.

Re: No signal imput 8800GTS 512
Well, the card is totaly broken now, doesn't even start up anymore, No singal imput direct from the moment the system starts up.
I tried putting in a very old ATI 740XT in it, didn't work(either broken or it has problems with vista.) I putted a 7600GT from my dad's PC in it to test, that did work. I'll send the card back to Germany. I already contacted the retailer, and he sais he'll take it back. Thanks anyway John |

Re: No signal imput 8800GTS 512
Yeah, he replied he sended the mail to the wrong adres (phew).
Anyway, I still try to get a X740XL to work in my PC, but it doesn't give me a signal either. Since other cards in it work, I think that it might be a vista problem. Any Idea how to work around it ? |

Re: No signal imput 8800GTS 512
Not really the only NV card I have used in years is a 9 series and haven't had any Vista or Win7 driver issues.

Re: No signal imput 8800GTS 512
Ok, it's been a month afther I sended it, and honnestly losing my patience. I sended a few mails to the retailer to ask how long it would take, but didn't get any reply, till finaly yesterday he gave one in wich he stated that he hace not recieved news from the factory.
Meanwile I use my dad's PC to get on the net. I might concidder buying a new one, and then sell the old one if it ever get's back. If I would buy a new one what would be the best ? I am thinking between a 275 or a 285 (295 to expencive) . I'm not going to buy it online anymore but by my local shop. They offer 275 from a 213€ to 260€ range and 285 from a 295€ to 350€range (all cards same spects just diff companies). Is this moreprice of the 285 justifieable to its preformance (long therm ?). I already got a 100€ fee from my parrents to buy a new one. Also does ATI give any good alternatives or do they still lack behind ? And in a lager broad, how long could it take before we see a price drop on these cards (would buy a 295 if it could get in the 300 range). I can be patient if I get a better value formy money, but i'm not going to w8 another eight months to see a pricedrop. cheers John |

Re: No signal imput 8800GTS 512
Man sorry for all your hassles regarding this I would consider contacting the card manufacturer at this point and reporting the bad service.
On the new card the 4xxx series is dropping in price due to the 5xxx series on the horizon. The GTX 275 is a solid little card not sure if your applications would justify moving to the GTX 285 .... your call. Hope you get it sorted one way or the other !! Cheers

Re: No signal imput 8800GTS 512
*bumping this threat*
Ok. Today a new 9800GT 1024mb was dropped in my mailbox. After many fruitless attempts to contact the retailer, it looks like they did return something after all. It only took them 3.5 months with pretty bad communication. At least I did get something back. Since I already have bought a 275GTX, i'll sell the 9800 on ebay. thanks for you advices. Kind regards, John |
