260 core 192 & 216??

a while back i bought an evga gtx 260 core 192 in the hopes of later on getting another, but now all the 260 range have 216 cores, can i run the two in sli??

I think it may actually be possible...I can't remember exactly who but a member had a core 216 and core 192 in sli but he sold one of them for a GTX285 if I recall correctly...

I wouldn't take the risk if that happened to Omega Red...even though it may have been a board issue, the problem occrued so best to stay clear of his predicament. I would try searching around a bit on maybe lesser known retailers. You might get a good deal on a core 192. you never know

Just thought I'd mention this as it's being talked about a lot lately, and that is that with a board like MSIs Big Bang, a P55 board with an integrated Lucid Hydra 200 chip, that board would allow you to use both of those cards.

'Course, that means buying a new CPU, new RAM, and new motherboard, but hey... that's the joy of "having to" upgrade.

It will work perfectly. There's almost no difference in SLI with a 192 & 216 paired together compared to a couple of 216's. We're talking 2-3 fps at most...when you're already getting 90-100fps that doesn't matter. The only factors you will have to take notice of is that both cards will run at 192sp and I believe the same clockspeed.

The issues I had with my 260's were motherboard related and not due to mixing them. I sold the cards and they are being used in SLI once again.

For Crysis you'll probably run Gamer settings but really it depends on what resolution and AA you decide to use in SLI. SLI is best for high resolutions and when you have AA/AF maxed out. I think I ran a mix of Gamer and Enthusiast settings at 1920x1200 thanks to Crysis CCC program which tweaks the game for you. There's also custom cfgs for Warhead which you might want to look for.

You planning to upgrade your monitor too? SLI doesn't really become an advantage until you hit the high resolutions when a single GPU would struggle.

or maybe they think if you have the graphics card, game and 3d glasses but cant use 3d it will make you want to buy the new screen, kinda like if someone bought you a blue-ray player and loads of blue-ray dvd's but no hd telly to watch them on!

I think the special samsung screen is 120hz model, because the glasses "split" the screen which halves the refresh rate to 60hz...

I see them being sold used all the time but yes a SSC model will work.

thats great then, i have seen gtx 260's but they have been around £200, this is way too much wearas i can pick up a 260 ssc for about £140 so i will get one of those, thanks for the help :-)

WOHOO!! got my second 260 (found a new core 216 on ebay!!) sli is awesome, system gets 22,503 on 3dmark 06 and i can play crysis on
1400x1050-very high(all)-4xAA with about 40fps average- 75 max- 29 minimum!!!!!!!! it's awesome and i get 8000 on fluidmark (its not exactly 8000 it's more but i cant remeber the exact number)
