another card for physx??

hi all, just wondering if i got a card like a 9600 or a 9800 and i wanted to setup the card just as a physx card how would i go about doing that??

do you have a twin LCD setup?? if yes it should be eastish providing you have the requirements of a PSU that supports the use of more than one card. Usually 750W is a good number... anyway, you also need Windows 7 64bit... If you are swure then that you have the required hardware then setup is pretty easy...

Run ati drivers
Run compatible nvidia drivers (not sure which ones work, but they're there)
Run PhysX Drivers (latest)
Configure Screens, be cautious.

There you go. lol

as you are using a EVGA GTX 260 (192 Cores) 896mb (overclocked) this will be your main card for the graphics...

So if you want to set a separate card for the PhysX,Either card will do the job fine..

Leave the monitor cable connected to the 260 GTX...

Install the 9600 or the 9800 into the secondary PCI-E slot.. But do not install the SLI connector.

A reinstall of the nvidia driver may be required.. It should detect the different cards and should select the 9600 or the 9800 as a dedicated physX card..

You have a similar set up to mine.

Yes.

Of note, you will want to go into the PhysX section of the Nvidia Control Panel, and double check that it is using that card for PhysX. Sometimes it will default to use the second card, but sometimes it will still be setup to use the main card (if compatible), or no card.

Edit: BTW, you will see minimal gains in PhysX performance with a 9800GT over a 9600GT, so go with the cheaper, and less power hungry card. Even a 9400GT would do the job.

cool, will this also work if i have 2 cards in sli then put the 9600 in the third slot? because my motherboard says that the first two will run at x16 and the last at x4

yea that works, 2 SLi cards, 1 PhysX card.

grab a 9500GT, seems to be the cheap card that lasts a while

so heres what you wanna do.... since you have the GTX260, you are to place the PhysX card (9400GT, 9500GT, 9600GT, 9800GT) in the second or third slot without an SLi bridge.

start the system and check the Nvidia Control panel for the change. it should have the new card set for PhysX already but double-check it...

once everything is configured you should be all set!

just one more thing tho, now that i have two gtx 260's and a 9600gt, what size psu will i need? i was thinking probably a 900w modular?

i would say 750 and up it dont have to be a modular im using corsair tx 850 pretty good on price...

that does look good but i dont have that much cash left, as you can see i have spent all i have on upgrading to i7 and sli

i only have £100's left maybe stretch tp £110 ive been looking at a few and the corsair 750w psu looks good or maybe a 700w coolermaster modular psu are in my price range at the moment

9600GT is a great physX card. quite cheap too. GT220 should be fine, haven't really tested it myself however as it was released after my article.
