LeadTek 6800GT opinions?
Ok well now it might look like I'm gunna get a LeadTek 6800GT instead of the Gigabyte. So anyone know or heard of the LeadTek version? All the 6800GT's are the same but this one has a bigger fan. Anyone know about it? Please help I want a good card

in my opinion, the Leadtek geforce 6xxx cards definately have one of the better bundles since it comes with Splinter Cell, but the XFX comes with Doom 3 which is pretty good as well

Anyone hear about the Lower RPM fan in the Leadtek? I have been reading around and a few people are saying that this card sucks for cooling. Is this true? They say the Heat Sink fan rocks but the actual fan dosen't do anything.

Also does anyone know how many case fans should one have for a 6800GT card? I'll prolly have 2 or 3 in a cheap case. Would that be enough? I'm planning on getting 4 unless 3 is the max. Will that be ok? Its this case here http://www.btecanada.com/catalog/pro...oducts_id=1293
Ignore the 7 case fan capabilities. Thats a Typo, i phoned them. U think thats enough?

I thought they were all the same post. oops.
I have a snail-type blower fan right behind my GT, with the intake faced towards the card. That seems to help. |

Hmmmm looks like I have to drill and cut the window and add another intake fan poised blowing right onto my card... I'm just worried about over heating. Hmm maybe an intake blowing from the fron of the case will work if i create a tube that directs the air flow right at my cards HSF... huh looks like I'll just have to wait and see.

Fidoki, I have a A400GT TDH and a single fan extracting air on the casing, just facing the GT. Nothing special to say about that VC. I don't think the heat sink is actually more efficient than on any other card though it is much bigger and heavier. The temp can go high during gaming (70°C) though average is 62 and normal operating condition 52.
I think this is no concern and these temps are by design. Note that I do not oc (don't need to, card is good as is). Be carefull with "fake" GT cards from Leadtek. Apart from this it is a good vc and I haven't had any issue with it. |

There are fake A400GT's? Hmmm how will I be able to tell? Does it only have 12 Pipelines or something?

Well they are kinda "fake" by design
since Leadtek now call them "light".But Mike2H wasn't aware of this on this thread : http://www.driverheaven.org/showthread.php?t=57771 I think there was some kind of mistake on box (may be 2 VCs swapped in the shop?) cos really I'm quite pleased with this card. |

wow. that sucks. make sure it doesn't say "LITE" on there. you can use rivatuner to check your clock speeds, pipelines, etc.

Ok well are all of the A400GT's (leadtek 6800GT's) the "lite" versions right now? I just boiught one i hope its origional.... And odly enough it seems most of the lite ones have been sold by a place called gameve or something like that. So maybe they are the ones ppl get the trouble from.. I dunno.

No the standard 6800GT is not the light one. You may check this on the Leadtek web site: the spec hasn't changed.
I suspect that Leadtek was facing a shortage on RAM like all other suppliers cos there was such a high demand for 6800 VC that... they had no more DDR3 RAM (though the 6800 was available lol!!!). So they sold "crap" VCs with low quality RAMs at 900MHz. This is fair providing : 1. Leadtek clearly mentions it on the box. 2. well if you agree to pay it the same price as a 1000MHz, it is up to you man. So you have it now? Just check the RAM frequency and use Riva Tuner to check that the all pipelines are active. |

i think you will be fine. the main difference between the lite & the reg vers was the mem. though my gpu was only able to go to 360. think it was a lower speed bin part. anyway the most of the lites have been sold to mostly unsuspecting customers so i do not think you will have a problem.
should have gone with the gigabyte though. while the leadteks bundle is far superior i really like my card. runs at 53-55c and has never gone over 67c(yet). that is at ultra speeds. will oc higher. good luck.

I think this explains some of the GT Lite mystery:

nope. has no relation whatsoever. the leadtek gt lites were sold because leadtek was having supply issues(as were some other co) & decided to go ahead & sell the lower binned parts as full gts. hoping they could get away with something. which they basically did.
that card is a completley different interface & pcb design. for $50 more the extra pipelines, faster mem, & probably faster binned gpu is a no brainer. now in a few months when it widley available & sli is more prevalent & bug free then i would give it a 2nd look. probably be a good compramise buy.

exactly. it is getting to the point were you are are better off going down to frys or best buy & paying the extra $$. at least you can hold & look at what you are getting & if there is a problem you have somebody you can go face to face with.

Oh I forgot one thing about this card.
Though I said that the heatsink is IMHO not better than on any other card since the temp is about the same, one fact is it is quite silent, most of the time... I don't know if this actually make a difference with other cards? |
