Purakane is on a distinguished road

i recently bought a 660 nvidia pci express is it any good?

the only reason i bought it was b/c that was the only card they had at the time and they have a 30 day return policy....its a 6600 256mb and i bought it for $200 canadian...so thats like.......12 bucks US....
anyways....i wanted to get the ati 800xt or the 6800.....but somone told me the prices are right now inflated cuz pci express is still new...and the hardware hasn't caught up...plus the stats says the 6800 is only 100 mb faster then the 6600??..and that i should buy a cheap one now.....which is still good....then buy a really good one next year.....

any adivce would help.....
and is the 660 better then the ati 9800 pro?? cuz when i bought the card i saw a graph for doom 3 and it was averaging 2 times better.....

oh and if it does suck....which card should i get?? somthing around $$400 canadian...

There is a huge difference is your friends on drugs ?

to many things to go over here is a chart for you....

As you can see the 128 bit memory wich cuts the bandwith of the memory even at the same clock in 1/2

less vertex shaders! only 8 pixel pipes!!! Low memory speed!
massive differances!

Oh don't use DOOM III, or far cry as much of an idicator if you do you must take into account thier super optumised for nvidia cards which mean it's a terrable bechmark to use to compair diffrent brands... the game runs diffrently code, paths, textures, etc makeing it un compairable in any fair fashon

It comes down to preferance wich is better.... both companies cards are pretty evenly matched sparing massive flame wars about who's better and why...

just don't rely on "ment to be played" or "get in the game" games to base your openions thier optumized for one brand then the other...with in brands it's fine, when compairing ATI card to ATI card or Nvidia card to nvidia card...

6600 is not a bad card if you play new games at medium quality graphics and at resolution 800x600 or 1024x768

But it's weak for something more than that

Agree with ya man, but still D3 is a very good tool to bench PC. I mean every tweak I did on the PC had a immediate effect on the frame rate. D3 is very RAM speed, CPU, AGP speed etc... sensitive.

To look at this again I'd add If I were you I'd take back the 6600 and pick up a 6800LE (preferable) or a 6600 GT

it debateable some would say yes some would say no.....some question weather a 6600 really has 8 pipes becouse some of the specs / bandwiths don't match up. some think it's a 4X2 (Pixels pipes x Texture units per pipe) setup insted of a real 8 pipes....

You want to geat at lest a 6600GT but preferable a 6800 series
(that or consider an ATI card)

pixel pipeline ARG it's best some else try to explain it to you

there is no 9800pro on a pcie, so that's a moot point.

what's your budget? high end PCIe cards are hard to come by.

here's more info on pixel and texel pipes:
