I have a Pentium 4 with MMX 1.4 Ghz CPU, 768 mb ram. SB Live.
Nvidia GeForce2 Ultra 4xAGP with DVI Video Card, 64mb. My problem is this: When I'm racing, my FPS drops from approx. 50 to 10 FPS every 5 seconds EXACTLY. Every time it drops, I warp. Some say it's my card, some say it's my sound card and some say it's my power supply. At this point, I don't know what to do. Can you help? ruddrunner Last edited by ruddrunner; Dec 21, 2004 at 08:24 PM. |

I'd say you need a seroius video upgrade if you've got some $$$ to spend

Roger that. But then again, on that same note, he could probably use to upgrade several components of his system.

You got viruses? I know a few which do that kinda thing... Since ur PC is weak, it might be the cause cuz every 5 seconds is fishy... Spyware?

make sure the system is clean, like the others have said.
what drivers are you running? did you download the latest patches for your game? details are important.

I'm very deligent about keeping my system clean. I do have all the latest Nvidia drivers and the latest patches for my game which is Nascar 2003 racing. I know I'm weak on the video card but can't drop big $$$ right now. I play games with lots of graphics and have no problem. Thanks for everbody's input. ruddrunner

I'm guessing you mean the latest "official" drivers, which are the 66.93s. Maybe you should try an older driver like the 61.77 just to see if it makes a difference. use driver cleaner before you install the old driver.

Yes, the driver I am using currently is the 66.93. I don't quite understand drivers and how they work and never heard of cleaning before I install an older driver. That may be something to do at this stage. ruddrunner

you really ned to spend about $100 +/- on a video card man and it'll really help your FPS
upgraeing you system is expenvie and secondary... easpecally when running such an old video card something from a nvidia 5700 (non le) or ATI 9600se or higher with 128mb orwould work wonders...the higher the better..... maybe even a little older card like the Geforce 4 4200ti would do a whole lot for you untill then theres nothing you can due.... no since in even attempting to tweak a system with severly obsolete video hardware... becouse your card is holding you down

To me, it sounds like some kind of cacheing problem on your vram. How long has it been doing this? always?
