Well if you already flashed into an XT, i think the pipes are already enabled for you. The 6600GT kills the 9800 XT in high resolutions anyone so it really doesn't matter. If you had an SE, I think you only get a 128 bit memory bandwidth so it really isn't any challenge for it.

the 6600GT doesn't kill the 9800XT. The performance between the two cards is very small. If you were to compare then 6600GT vs. a 9800pro then yea, the 6600GT would just completley own. One thing that the ATI card has over the nVidia cards is that they run better with AA/AF turned on.

yeah the 256bit memory makes AA and AF pwn.

once you add the AA and AF, the 6600GT fails miserably.

that is a little under par for a 9800xt, but it is a modded 9800se, so i don't know if that should be taken into consideration for the card being under par. I honestly do not think that you will be too impressed on the performance "upgrade" over your current card. If you want a very noticable increase in performance i would recommend you save up your money for an x800pro or better if you want to go ATI, or if you still want to go nVidia, i would recommend at least a 6800 vanilla.

dude, you just bought yourself a downgrade. you just went from 256bit memory bandwith, to 128bit memory bandwith. I promise you that you will not be impressed by the negligable performance increase over the 9800xt. You could have purchased a 6800 vanilla for like $30-$40 more over the 6600GT and that would have been a HUGE improvement over the 9800xt or the 6600GT.

You can overclock it with ease. Most manufacturers have their own OC program or you could use NVTweak.

even with overclocking it still would not be able to compare to a 6800 vanilla.

128Bit memory bus
8 Pixel Pipelines

900Mhz Memory
256Bit bemory bus

as long as i get a card what runs bf2 smooth on high details.

What features does the new GF 6 series have above the ati 9*** series ?

Whats the best driver for it, the Nvidia Omega Drivers 1.6693 (Forceware 66.93) or the standard 71.89 ?

PS: I stil have a AGP M/B. And in our money here in South Africa the 6600GT cost R2100 and the 6800 cost R4000 (rand).

BF2 will be playing very similar to how it was playing with your 9800xt card, if you can turn up details higher, it won't be by much more. But if you're going to keep your card, i would recommend you use the newest official drivers, and then after that you start to experiment with some modified or beta drivers.

ok, V-Tuner says speeds are 300/1000. I update BIOS and its sepose to update to 500/1000 website says (gigabyte). V -tuner stil says 300/1000. Update V-Tuner all is fine now, exept my temp option in nvidia settings is gone now...Reinstalled old V-Tuner stil gone. Installed new V-Tuner and reinstalled driver, stil gone.

Did the BIOS update remove the temp option?

If it did , i would say it is gay fron gigabyte aint it?

Hard to say about safe temps but I'd say somewhere along the regions of 80-90C. GPUs are more resistant to heat (or so I've read) than CPUs but heat is still an issue.

Your temps are absolutely fine. It's lower than my 6800GT which idles at 51.

i jsut read in this review (http://www.tweaktown.com/document.ph...Id=761&dPage=2) , they overclocked the agp like mine to PCI-E speeds, 720/1200. Can i do the same as long as i keep the GPU core cool enough and whats the temp's closely ?

Never expect that you can duplicate an overclock someone else has made. The overclockability of something is dependant on chip quality, environment, temps, memory quality, etc and perhaps most of all: sheer luck.

If you can overclock your card to those levels, great. No artifacts and running stable? Even better. Will you be able to do it? No friggin clue.

no you shouldn't, but if you're running 2 HDDs or more, i say get a new PSU anyways. You want to make sure that all of your devices are getting all the power that they need.

If you are looking for good drivers, give the DHZer0point series a try. They offer improved image quality as well as improved performance. If you don't plan to overclock too much, the 76.44 set will do you good, but if you do want to overclock, give the 71.89 set a try.
