which card should I get?

I am looking at getting a new graphics card, but am not very good on what is what. I can't get pci-e, so it'll have to be an agp.

At the moment my friend is offering me his old XFX GeForce FX 5950 Ultra 256mb for £100. Is this worth getting or should I spend the extra and get a 6600gt ultra 256mb agp or whatever (i can afford that)?? Or is the 5950 a better card??

The main reason for the new upgrade is to be able to play Battlefield 2.

Thank you for any help you can give me.

Regards
Richard

go fur the card with the newer architechture (the 6600), not knokin nVidia but the 5 series wasnt that great, im sur youll get way better performance in bf2 with the 6600

really? on comparing the two the 5950 seems to run a lot better (but not knowing what all the bits mean I could be talking S**t).

Not meaning to annoy anyone, but could you please explain why the 6600 is better even though all the specs on it seem to be worse? I just wanna make sure I get the better one for me especially for the price.

Thanks again and sorry.

Take a look at those two links :

It will give you an idea of the performance of the cards.

thanks for those posts that really helped!! looks like the 6600gt or 6800.

I have been advised that it might not be worth spending the extra on getting a 256mb over a 128mb. Is that good advice??

try and get your self into the 6800's if you can, one with 12 pipes. Should be under 200 USD.

The new 6-7 series support pixel shader 3.0 and just are alot better in all areas,

If you can go for 256mb of on board ram.

what is your current system?

what is your budget, that will help us pick a card for you.

Later
