Can someone verify this Geforce card for me?
Alright this may be a bit odd but I just wanted to make sure. Now, since I don't exactly have the money to buy a brand new spanking x800xt, I'd figure I would try and find a used 6800gt. I did find one and did some research.. and one thing had me wondering.. this is the link to the card the guy is selling http://www.craigslist.org/sby/sys/91965450.html Seems pretty attractive eh? Now what confuses me is, is that from reading reviews they keep showing this http://www.bjorn3d.com/read.php?cID=653 and if you notice the card is green rather than blue which the guy shows. The reason of this is because I just don't want to be scammed. Anyhow..thats about it.. So please help me.thanks.

i would not mess with it. that card has a heatpipe on it. as fas as i know bfg does not use heatpipes on any of their 6800gt cards. also, the color of the pcb is not so much of an issue as is the placement & amount of 'stickers' that are different between the 2 cards.
if you have $235, why bot wait a little while longer & save another $70 & get you a new gt or x800xl? will save you a lot of potential problems/worries. unless i know the individual personally i never buy stuff like that used. you just do not know what you are getting.

well,I haven't seen much XLs that are AGP. Also, Seeing that the 6800gt and XL are basically tied I wouldn't which to buy. I'm still discussing matters over with Son_Of_Thunder who is also a member here so far at this point I really don't know. I'm just trying my best to save some money atleast since thats the major issue about me upgrading. EDIT: Btw, I don't exactly have 235..more like 144,but if I could I can be indebt with my parents..

hey there,
while I CAN verify that the card on the site is a 6800 gt (i own one, and its definately that blue color)- i must warn you to be careful when buying a used piece of computer gear. you really don't know what the card had been through. however, since its a bfg card, they will replace it if anything is wrong, so you should be allright. also the BFG cards DO have a heat pipe. mine from best buy had one...though i quickly replaced the cooling system to an NV silencer.

Well I emailed the guy and mainly asked whats the reason of him selling it and how long will the warranty last. As I said in my last post, money is an issue so therefore, I'd have to be indebt with my parents if I were to buy a card.

ah ok,but according to the BFG site, you think the card would have those dual fans? Also, before I was going to buy a refurb X800xt PE for 229 at ati but then they are all gone now.

have you considered buying a vanilla 6800 or a 6600gt? these are close to your price range.

Ahhh SF the horrible nightmares of that place
. my opinion, if you can get a 6800 series you'll be happy. I've heard of a lot of problems with 6600 and its just not up to par sometimes. And yes everyone like Deadpool and Punisher. I'd say wait for a little while and save up money, because it will end up being the better investment. I'm getting a 7800GTX because I won't really need to replace it for a very long time, and when the time comes where it is not enough for my games, the SLI mobo makes it easy just to buy another one, which by the time I need it it will go down 25% - 50%. I say if your goin to burn a hole in your pocket might as well save up for a while. I was gunna get an x800xt for my agp mobo but it really wouldn't have helped with my old crap comp. So I'm deciding to save up about 1500 and max the hell out of my comp with that budget. Go to Newegg.com if you want some of the best prices. I'd say just rebuild ur comp for PCI express 16X.

eh...heres the problem. If i wanted to convert to pci-e, the minimal I would spend is about 600 nearly 700 dollars. I kept thinking and thinking and realized it wouldn't be a good idea in my case. Then I just decided to get a new card, ram, and psu. I'm just trying to best I can to find the right card for the money. Man, if only I won that 4,400 playing Keno.. EDIT: and btw, I really wanted to upgrade before call of duty 2 comes out..which is this fall.

I'd say your best bet is still to save your money. If you have or get a job, or do extra work for your folks or some type of overtime you can get the pc of your dreams pretty early b4 Call of Duty 2. I still say save up your money. You can make an awsome rig for 900 to 1000. Just check Newegg.com to find anything u need with which ever u decide.

Thats the other problem also. I'm not so computer savvy so to speak,so I'd most likely come here again if I ever hit that money. I doubt I'll do work for my folks. They pay me lower than minimum wage! My dad pays me ten cents A MONTH for doing yard work. my mom only gives me a couple bucks for it though. They won't let me get a job considering I'm young, and they won't tolerate me spending away my life savings on a computer. My brother is also pushing me to upgrade because he wants my current card right now which is a Geforce 4 Ti 4200. I'm thinking of maybe only giving it to him if he will chip in for my cause...so howmuch are Ti 4200s worth nowadays?
EDIT: I found a cheap place that has a ATI X800XL for 266..but the tax is all fucked up. it said it was 22 bucks while the place is an hour away from me.wtf? I also tried it at newegg, and they were charging a 20 dollar tax for a 278$ x800xl.... EDIT: thunder if you are reading this right now,you should atleast get on AIM and discuss. yeah there are 3 states Newegg absolutely hates, and Cali is one of em, but we deserve it.
My comp will cost 100 bucks in tax and like 20 in shipping, I would rather ship it to colorado and have my bro send the parts to me. |

yes, there was some confusion but when I meant those parts that thunder recomennded me,he just choose those parts for me when i get the money. I just added those parts in the cart to see how much it would cost.nothing more. EDIT: I give up, I'm just going to buy an ATI Radeon X800xl from newegg thats 278,with an Aspire 520w PSU for 55.

grest card & good price. i would highly rec going with a major name brand ps. to many people make the mistake of buying cheap psus. you used to be able to get away with it a little more but todays newer com parts are more demanding.
also what do you need 520w for? i would drop the wat & get something in the mid 400s & a better brand. like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103459 or this- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103928 anyway you get the idea.

I appreciate it. EDIT:hmm...well you sure that enermax is better than the Aspire? The Aspire has like.. 3 fans...and uhh yeah I don't know how to compare specs when dealing with PSUs. heres link http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817148008

is that a 2.4 northwood? b or c vers? dont worry about it to much. if you can finagle a cpu upgrade awsome, otherwise do what you are planning & worry about the cpu down the road.

hey mike, do you happen to know any sites out of state so I don't have to pay that shitty tax? Anyhow I think I found what I need now. This may be my final parts to buy. and these were the cheapest I can find so far..
http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...oducts_id=2666then the value select 1gb from newegg. and then http://www.compuplus.com/insidepage.php3?refer=streetprices&id=1004249 EDIT: yes it is a northwood p4. but not sure if its b or c... er well I just found another place that sold the PSU for 61 bucks but its owned by yahoo I think..and they don't let you pick various colors for your psu... http://www.xoxide.com/mge-xg-vortec-500w-psu.html Last edited by K3Fallout; Aug 22, 2005 at 07:57 AM. |

you could also try this - http://www.pricegrabber.com/

i have never heard of it. that does not mean much though. the price is a little low for a quality 500w, especially when you throw in the eye candy. what did the review say? maybe it is just a good deal.
