Hahahaa... look at this awful review of a 7800GTX

There are soo many errors in the review... i'll point out a few (but there are many many more)

http://www.motherboards.org/reviews/...re/1530_1.html

Well... firstly take a look at the intro that tries to put you to sleep *yawn*

page 2
Quote:
Brand - XFX
Model - 6600GT
Graphics Chip - G70
Graphics Memory Type - DDR3
Memory (MB) - 256
Graphics Core Clock (MHz) - 450
Memory Clock (MHz) - 1250
Memory Speed (ns) - 1.6
.... it's a 7800GTX review... not a 6600GT review!

Quote:
XFX has a unique style of box presentation. The first thing a person notices on a store shelf is the box of the card. All XFX cards come in a stylized box shaped like an X. One thing about XFX boxes is they tend to be very hard to open. This is a security measure to protect stores from theft, or easy card replacement. I think it's a cool concept that has helped stores maintain inventory.
o...k...

and then there's the fact that not all XFX cards come in the X shaped box... only the top end ones.

Quote:
This effectively cools the 7800GTX card, as the G70 chip runs cooler than the NV4x family does
ok... sounds like i'm just picking out every little thing with this one... but it's very annoying lol... get rid of the word does dammit! It's un needed padding... pointless addition to the sentence... end it with family

Quote:
The 7800GTX comes with a 6-pin power connector to provide extra power above and beyond the 75W the PCI Express X16 slot provides.
... another pet peeve of an annoyance... this person really needs to learn how to write... it just doesn't read properly.

Quote:
The core clock speed of the 7800GTX from XFX is 450MHz by default, a 20MHz overclock, compared to NVIDIA's 430MHz reference card clock. The 7800GTX can output 16 pixels per clock, giving a total maximum fillrate of 7.2 gigapixels a second.
16 pixels... 16... the 7800GT is 20 and the GTX is 24 per clock... biggg difference... the 6800ultra/gt was 16

Quote:
NVIDIA feels, that games going forward will be more and more shader intensive, making fill rate less of a concern.
dear oh dear

on page 2...
Quote:
The memory is rated and clocked at 625MHz,
on page 4...
Quote:
.11 micron process

450MHz core

650MHz memory clock

24 Pixel Pipelines

Pixel Shader 3.0

16 ROPs
... so... they get the core speed right... but they've put the memory at 650mhz this time... the 450mhz core version has 625mhz mem... not 650... at least they've been able to get the correct number of pixel pipelines on this page.

Quote:
Another SKU is a overclocked version with 490MHz core clock and 1.32GHz memory clock.
Actually... the 490MHz core version has 1.3GHz memory... not 1.32GHz

Quote:
I only mention this because in the CPU space transistor numbers have doubled every 18 months. Video cards have increased transistor counts every 18 months as well.
Ok.. that's just badly written and I was under the impression we had broken Moore's law.

Quote:
NVIDIA included 24 pixel shader pipelines on the 7800GTX, an increase of 50% over the 6800 Ultra that was NVIDIA's previous high-end flagship card.
ooooh... they got it right again... well done!

Quote:
One of the primary growth drivers of the video card market today is running multiple video cards on one system providing increased performance called SLI.
Is English your native language mate?

Quote:
SLI has two modes of operation on the GEFORCE 7800GTX and 6xxx series of cards, AFR and SFR. AFR stands for Alternate Frame Rendering. In this mode, each video card renders a frame one after the other. SFR stands for Split Frame Rendering. In this mode, the two cards work together to render a single frame. AFR is useful when the card needs to render similar frames back to back. SFR is useful when parts of a frame are more graphics intensive than the next frame.
two... two! *shakes head*

coolbits man... coolbits!

Quote:
I attempted to use the 7800GTXs in SLI mode on the nForce4 for Intel SLI platform. Unfortunately, I was unsuccessful, despite trying 3 different motherboards, 3 different SLI bridges, and many hours of work. I believe the issue may have to do with a BIOS update, as the cards worked singly to specification and together. In 3DMark05, performance was the same with single or dual cards in SLI mode on the Intel platform.
hehe

Quote:
NVIDIA card drivers are a simple matter to install. Simply insert the card(s) into available PCI Express X16 slot(s) and set the SLI selector to either single or SLI mode depending if you have one or two cards in the system. Once Windows boots install the latest Forceware drivers (in this case 77.72) and you're good to go. If you have two cards installed, you need to enable SLI by going to the SLI multi-GPU tab in the display drivers and check the "enable SLI checkbox". After a restart you should be good to go.
riiiight

He mainly compares the 7800gtx to single and paired 6600GTs... yes you read that right... 6600gts! however - in the odd test an x600pro and x700 manage to squeeze their way into the testing.

One thing about NVIDIA cards that is inferior to the competition is the 2D. 2D image quality is important to me as a review writer. Going from an ATI card to an NVIDIA card, 2D is noticeably different especially at 1280x1024 75Hz and above. On an ATI card, the 2D at that resolution is readable. On the XFX card, it can be blurry, especially when reading text and looking at websites. The standard in 2D image quality is Matrox. The Parhelia I use in one of my AGP systems has the best 2D image quality bar none.
What the! 2D quality should be identical.. or at least near to.

I also noticed how he never goes over 1280x960... someone has a crappy 17" crt monitor... who in reality would waste a PAIR of 7800GTXs on a 17" crt!!!!

And the blurry problem he goes on about... much more likely to be the monitor than the cards... silly person. He also said that "the 7800GTX has no peer"... if it has crap 2D quality... how can it have no peer?

Well... that was quite a rant lol

snuffy is on a distinguished road

Damn guy needs an editor. My english skils are bad but I never would post an article without having at least one person proof read it. (Heck some of that the MS office grammar checker would have caught) Also would have double checked the facts......all that can be said is sloppy.

2D is fine on these cards. I don't see what he is talking about. In 3D the shimmering is annoying.......

My God what a horrible review. He practically says the same thing over and over again, paragraph by paragraph, and he just can't seem to get the facts straight. I wish I could go in an edit it becuase it's obvious that english is this guys 3rd language. Hell, after reading JUST the conclusion I felt like going into their forum to "discuss" the "review writers" review.

Oh, and was it just me or did it seem like he was using pieces of other reviews to make this one?
