Thinking of buying a 7800GTX - but are nvidia using cheats with AF?

I won an FX processor and it arrived a while ago, im now thinking of getting a 7800GT or X but after reading this http://www.3dcenter.org/artikel/g70_...n/index2_e.php I have real concerns about this shimmering issue.

Does anyone here have a 7800 card that can tell me how bad this is? it looks to be a performance boosting thing. I love nvidia hardware but man I hate this stuff they keep pulling.

I might wait on the forthcoming ATI hardware, but im looking for opinions, thanks!

The shimmering's not to bad, i read today that its been fixed in the next drivers(78.03) with hardly any performance loss.

I just read the article, and yeah it's a driver thing, so you can always wait until they fix the problem. You may also want to see what the R520 has to offer. It may be worth the wait. I couldn't wait (Primarily because I would have no video card to play with since I'm selling my PCs), so I picked up a 7800GT. Love it.

Now this shimmering is a driver thing, I wonder if that will fix the issues with shimmering and stuttering when SLI-ing two 7800's that some people have been experiencing??

shimmering is general caused by LODBias issues, and is easily fixed by third parties if nVidia refuses to own up

Yes 78.03 fixes it, but the real keeners say there's still small amounts shimmering. I for one never really took notice of it in the first place because I wasn't staring at the floor while the Combine were unloading clips into my face.
