So,
After my GREAT day at the Geforce hell hotel. I found out my card is dead, and Pny sucks too much ass to honor my "LIFETIME WARRANTY!".... Soooooooooooooo On ward and up-ward! This thread is to help me decide what my next video card will be. Should I go ATI? Or should I Wait? or........... Should I buy one of those awsome looking Turbo Ti 4200's Im ich'in to get my hands on? The Decision will be in the hands of the "all knowing" driver heaven members. Help me decide my poor "3d-less" computer's fate. MadGoat

And the big question is...
...what is our budget? What's our target, & what's our extreme? I grok the rules to be it has to include shipping to AZ, does it have to be new?

hummm,
ok,
Here is the terms.... No it does not have to be new. (as in "used"... I want something as good or better than my last 4200) umm, Im looking at around 150-180 US dollars. Yes, Shipping would be to AZ and Im looking for a high pro replacment, not a crutch to tied me over. (im am using my old ass TnT2 for that now.) AND NO PNY CRAP! Thanks, MadGoat

...I'd go for an ATI 128MB 9500 Pro. Pricewatch lists 3 that will be delivered to your door for $178 for a saphire, $178 for an OEM, and another OEM for $180. I'm liking that last link, they give you three different choices of add-on GPU coolers and an $18 option to get tin-plated copper heatsinks on the memory. I know, I know; I'm just being lazy.
![]() I really would go for the 9500 Pro , do NOT try and save yourself $30 and get a regular 9500...it's a WHOLE different card and a whole lot less of one. The 9500 Pro has just fallen into your price range and I think it's a hell of a bang-for-buck card that will carry you for a while into the future. (Did I just say that about an ATI card? Would someone please mention it to ATI... )Seriously, it looks like a sweet card and the one for your price spot...IMHO.

Sounds good
Sounds like a good card,
But what does it offer over a 4200? Is this a DX9 card? and would it just be worth waiting till the 9700 comes down in price? Or is the 9500 like the 4200 to the 4600? (im not a "leading edge" kinda guy) Anyway, I will do some lookin and readin on the 9000 series cards. Thanks Digi! MadGoat ![]() EDIT: Also, hows the overclocking on these cards? .... worth trying?

Did some reading
I looked up on the net,
And for the money, I dont see that big of a boost over my 4200 to be paying that much for a card. a comfy overclock on a 4200 would match, and in some cases beat a 9500 pro.... plus the 9500 pro is $180, where as I can find a nice 4200 for around $130... I dont think the "step" is big enough for me on this one. Yes, I know it has 128mb of mem.... but i dont do enough to cache that much on a v-card anyway (dont think many of us do) i think if I were to buy anything from ATI right now... It would be the 9700 "NON-Pro" version. I dont want to pay an extra $80 for a higher clock on the same card. but seeing that I would only look at the 9700... Its out of my price range... Im thinking about another 4200 card... but then there is the voice in the back of my head saying.... "Why buy this card, you just had one.... look how far it got you"..... yes, yes I know... plus buying another of the same card I just had when the new release of the nv30 and competition is due out soon, .... I would for sure be kicking myself.......... i think I will wait some more, and see what prices are like next year.... or until a "Killer" deal heads my way. more input! NEED MORE INPUT! please feed me your thoughts............. (and thanks again digi!) MadGoat

I've just got one of these http://www.hexus.net/review.php?review=425 It's clocked at 275/500Mhz core and memory speeds out of the box, the same as a Ti4400 and it runs stable at 300/600Mhz. Thats within range of a Ti4600 and all for the price of a regular Ti4200. The only downside is the 7200rpm fan, it is a bit on the noisy side.
