what the hell man? did you just throw it out side and build an igloo around it?
theres no way that can be cooler then your ambient temp unless your pipeing cold air in from some place.

that's dang cool my rig runs at 61f case at 65f and it's overclocked it's a Amd 3500 winnie at 1.55v at 240fsb x 11 all cooled by a thermaright xp-90 with an 80mm torando fan. And my video card is an x1900xtx idle runs at 34c and full load runs at 55c. it's nice having a rig that runs that cool uh. You need to overclock that bad boy.

I think abient temperature in the room (Vault) is roughly -2 to -5*C... i can't hold onto the mouse for more then a few minutes before my hand starts to fill a little numb...
And the stock heatsinks on the 3800+ x2 and below royally blow..... so i was quite impressed with the results... Course i'm using OCZ Ultra 5+ Silver Thermal Compound. Trying to spread that stuff is like trying to spread a brick evenly across your table. In any case, it's a roughly 10*C cooler then my previous setup. Should provide an excellently stable and long life of a server

Careful with hard drives, mechanical parts can start having problems if it's too cold... not really sure what the threshold is for hard drives though.

according to the package.... says +5*C is recommended minimum.... but.... i've seen them run under much worse conditions.... imo, it's only a concern under that temperature due to condensation. Most of all electronics have a labeled working condition of no lower then +5*C just to cover there own asses... If the humidity is nill, you can cool most electronics down to sub -200*C with little to zero problems, if Course i'm not sure how well the hardrives motors will handle it.... good concern there.... (or DVD-ROM drive, hell the fans may fail... but if it's that cold.... i doubt anything could be cranked up high enough to warrant concern lol)

yeah the problem is that they create their own heat, so they will condensate.. in normal cold conditions anyway. What do you just turn the heat off or something? Or are they in a room with the windows wide open?

no it's in a vault.... 2 foot thick Cemented steel honey comb rebared walls... a big honking 2 foot thick steel pinned vault door....
it's a 8x20 foot vault room. There is no heat, no windows, no nothing except for the little hole that i had to get drilled (took 2 hours to drill) which is sealed off as well. Nothing gets in or out enless i allow it.. You ever been in a large bank with those big heavy vault doors and the big walk in vault? My business resides in a building that used to be a bank, my server and parts and whatnot are all kept in the Vault. At night, i can sleep quite soundly due to this fact (not to mention the security camera system that is also fed into the vault). It's fire proof to. You'd need a fair amount of dynamite to open this thing up. In any case, durring the cold cold winter nights, the cold seeps into the vault... making it cold cold... Durring the summer it remains quite cool.. it'll be warming then winter obviously....

LOL @ Judas' vault. Reminds me of the banks and building societies I used to do the fire and security installs in.......Ahh them were the days, spending weekends core drilling vault walls and ceilings for cable runs.
Some bright spark even sold a load of early wireless gear to a client for the job, shame no one told him the vaults were effectively a faraday cage and thus pretty much emf proofed. |

rotfl.. indeed.... sending any form of wireless crap through this vault wall is like trying to send a wireless connection with a device that's getting struck by lightning....
i mean, my wireless 5.8ghz phone can be on the other side of the wall.. and my receiver on the other... and although it's only 2 feet.. can't get a signal at all... it's all gotta be wired... ![]() one reason i like the vault is ZERO interferance at all, i've never had some things run so smooth and stable..... Drilling through honey comb steel reinforced filled cement is like drilling through diamonds with a typical household drill.... after an hour of drilling and stareing at a dint...... kinda dipressing..

omg.
I OWN my business, which resides in a building that USED to be a BANK. Within this building that USED TO BE A BANK is a walk in vault room. Within this VAULT i have setup my router, server, security system and internet connection, everything runs to the vault, and everything runs out of the vault. SO. My Security cameras cables run from the other portions of the building into the vault and into a box that i can record, my internet connections are ran into the vault into my router, my server being in the vault is connected to the router and the security system devices. 3 Network ethernet cables are plugged into the router and ran outside the vault to hubs within my building to supply internet and network connectivity to all my display machines and my work machines. Stock i don't want to have sitting on the shelves (serious, do i need to be showing up 5-10+ pairs of the exact same thing off in store? specially when they are expensive? ) is put into the vault, end of day comes, i can shut the vault door, spin up the combo-locks and feel at ease knowing that anyone that ends up breaking in, is in no way going to get to my vault where i keep majority of my stock, they won't be able to find the main security box to say attempt to destroy the evidence that i would have caught on camera, NO ONE will be able to tamper with my server AT ALL which holds my files, provides server related services, and does other chores that i like it to do. With zero worry that someone may accidently do something to it. I don't live in my business building....

Hey nice use of "omg" and keycaps on principal words when you are trying to talk down to me. I can understand what "bank" is without the caps.
Ok let me say it like it is and I dont say this often. I think you are full of shit, everyone in here seems to just believe everything you say because you have a high post count, but ive been reading your threads on this forum and you seem to be just totally trying to impress people. Ill stay out of your threads from now on because I have seen so many people like you on the net - people who need to make things up to look impressive. its quite sad. |

mkay...
Not trying to talk down to you at all i'm just slightly confused how i've basically repeated myself several times.. and in the terms of "full of shit", is that refering to "I don't beleive you have a vault" or "I don't think you are getting the results you've posted" or "I don't beleive a damn thing you ever have to say" Frankly my post count means absalutely nothing, I speak no differently to anyone else or on any other board if i post, if i had a postcount of -500 (which i've had on here which was quite amusing) or 0 or whatever... The simple fact that I was getting confused by being asked pretty much the same question over and over and over again explaining myself a little more over and over again. And i wasn't directing the post directly at you. I was making it a general post, to make CLEAR of what i had. You aren't the only one reading this thread.

Myself and a few other DH members are devising an elaborate scheme to break into his vault and run benchmarks. Just like Oceans11 but less attractive.

rotfl...
it's not like the floors are pressure sensitive or the air temperature is being moderated.... It's just a large super thick walled reinforced cement room with a good damn large heavy durrable steel bank vault door. Expected apprasal of the door alone is probably close to 20 grand lol....
