Which video card? (help!)
I kinda need to know quickly about this
I'm just about ready to upgrade my computer, and I was going for an Ati X800GTO, then I came across the nVidia 7600 GT. Problem is.. they both have the ups and downs The X800GTO from Powercolor is $184 at Newegg. It's 400/980. Apparently, It's very nicely overclocked, and this one from Powercolor has 16 pipes out of the box, and if not you can unlock the 4 pipes. At TigerDirect, there is a GeForce 7600 GT from XFX. It kills the X800GTO with 590/1600. After rebates, it comes to $170. Problem is the rebates end tomorrow. Also, when it's describing the 7600, it says 256-bit, but on both spec pages it says 128-bit. Now I'd jump at the GeForce, but it is 128-bit, while the Ati is 256-bit. With that difference in Core/Memory frequencies, would the 128-bit make that much of a difference in comparison to 256-bit? 7600: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...Tab=0&NoMapp=0 X800GTO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814131424 Mobo + CPU combo: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...828847&CatId=0

The 7600gt has a memory bus of 128bit...the 256bit may be referring to the core, otherwise it's false advertising. The gto, especially if you can get it to 16 pipes, will outdo the 7600 in performance, but does not have shader 3.0/hdr stuff. They both have great performance for the money, but I'd go for the 7600 to get the new features.

Hmm, so you think that if I want it to look nicer, get the 7600, but if I care more about performance than quality get the X800?

the 7600 is only gunna look nicer if you play alot of games that run PS3.0, you can see the difference between PS2.0 and 3.0, but as of now its a small diffence, im sure that will change in a year or so.

Ok, so I guess I'll go for the 7600, and for a deal like that it seems that the 128-bit is a small price to pay.
Just need to make sure though, even though it says SLI, it'll still work in a non-SLI board as long as it's PCI-E, right? Thanks guys

If I was buying a new vid card today, I'd want it to have hdr/3.0 capabilities, so yes. The iq of the radeon is of course great, it just is a gen behind in features. If possible, you may want to have a look at the x1800xl or x1800 gto to see what their prices are as well. My choice right now would be the 7900gt, but it's probably way out of the price range...

should still work, i didnt notice the 7600 was 128-bit memory interface, personally i would want 256-bit, i think this will be a graphics bottleneck for you.

It looks like the Hightech one, people had the most success in flashing it..

ya, prolly more on par with the lower end 7800 rather than 7600, not to nVidia knowledgeable, different card wise.

Yea, after looking around for a little bit, people think that the maybe HighTech and Connect3D are the only ones capable of flashing to an XL
http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33851710 Look at Lewdvig's posts, and his sig. The Sapphire flashed successfully, but ATI Tool shows 12 pipes still

Except the one i was looking at was 7600.. pretty different if you ask me..
But the X1800GTO comes back in stock on the 28th, just two days before the $60 rebate ends

The Connect3D one randomly came in suddenly, so I ordered it. The reason I wanted to get Connect3D in particular is because it's one of the only two brands that can be flashed to an XL so you can achieve 16 pipes instead of 12. I ordered everything before, I should get all the stuff before the end of the week.
