I'm sure fans of the Police and REM (and all that IRS did for real music in the 80's) know who I'm talking about.

thought it was a bit sad, he gave me one of my favourite ever bands, and he pioneered the idea that by appealiing to a minority , but doing it in such a way that you ultimately reached lots of people, you could really launch a band (pre-cursor to the whole arctic monkeys, internet thing imo)

seems too young for someone who influenced music in the way he did
