..and yet another "I want to get a new digital camera" thread
So, after many months of being virtually broke, I seem to have a bit of money right now, so naturally I have to spend it
Basically I want to get a digital camera, since I don't have one atm, and it seems that now's the right time. What I am looking for is a big optical zoom + good night shots if possible. Here's what I had in mind for instance, the Olympus SP 510 UltraZoom: http://www.olympus.co.uk/consumer/29..._UltraZoom.htm Any advice?

Hmm.. I just recently got the Canon Powershot S2 IS, and I love it. Pretty similar to that Olympus, except the S2 has a 12x optical zoom, but 5 megapixels. Pretty much entire manual control and all that jazz

the S2 IS is a stellar peice of equipment...
As I remember from my days selling electronics, Olympus makes incredible stuff...once you cross the $3-400 threshold, but their lower end stuff is utter garbage and fit for a happy meal toy. Sony, Canon or Panasonic would be my reccomendations for something other then a digital SLR |

I'm in the market for a digital camera as well, just waiting on a bonus from work. I have my eye on the Canon PowerShot SD630

Using AA batteries (generally that would mean NiMH and charger, possibly Lithium as standbys) is a strong plus point, as you can stock up on spare batteries without being held to ransom!
XD card memory ... pass! personally, I do not wish to know anything other than SD or CF, as they are plentiful and cheap. XD is a bit worse (seems to be around twice the price of SD). All other things being equal, I would definitely choose common battery & memory format, over proprietary battery and "exotic" memory formats. I'd need a lot of convincing to consider anything that couldn't use some mail order 4-packs of NiMH AA.

I recently got a Casio Exilim EX-Z600. I wanted a camera small enough to take with me everywhere, plus it has super battery life, lcd screen bright enough to see in full sun and excellent picture quality.

![]() ![]() I took off my lens adapter and polarizer for these by the way. Both at 1/160 at F8, ISO 50.. resized to 1024x768 just so this thread doesn't get all stretched and whatnot If you want comparisons between the ISO settings or something just ask

these are the only pics i have on hand from my moms S2 when i was testing it. as LHC said, if you like, i can go find the camera and take pictures with diffrent options.
i dont remember what settings where used, or even what level zoom. sorry for the lack of interesting pics too... but were in the buisness of selling boat props. so 99.9% of all pics taken by me are boat props. ![]() ![]() and this was my first time useing macro, i think it turned out pretty well.

So basically I decided what to get; I couldn't afford the S2 IS right now, so I got this instead:
Nikon S4 Coolpix I had people tell me good things about Nikon and its cameras, hopefully I made a good choice Any guys here with experience with those?
