Well, since I am making some $$$ doing my current job, I thought I'd spoil myself before I start school again and buy myself a gorgeous Xbox360 (no Wii or expensive PS3 here!). And well, since its HD, I thought this might be a good reason to finally buy a HD TV.
Now, I am really a noobie at these TV things so I don't know what I should get. I do know I want something not too expensive (1600-2000$ range) and something in the range of 32" to well, as much as my price range allows. So obviously, I dunno the first questions is Plasma or LCD? Oh yeah, I mustn't forget that it NEEDS to have PC connectivity. It just has to have that... So help Please!

PC connectivity is pretty simple depending on the out's from your computer. Does your vid-card have TV-Out? If so what kind, VGA, S-Video, etc. etc.
You'll want an HDTV with a built in HD tuner. In terms of deciding Plasma or LCD I usually tell a person go to a store, look at the picture quality and price and find one that fits you. I still happen to like the ginormous tube technology for bang/buck. |

What exactly does the HD Tuner help with? Stupid question, I know but I swear I know nothing about this stuff...
As for PC connectivity, I was hoping DVI or something... It'd be a laptop that would hook up. |

Since your going to be gaming on this it's going to be LCD. The main reason plasma is well known for burn in issues.

Why don't you buy like a huge widescreen monitor instead of a TV and save money and have better picture too?

Well the biggest widescreen moniter I can get is a 30" for 2800 CHF (Dell) while their LCD TV which is 37" is 2700 CHF so yeah... Tis cheaper, has speakers and I can easily do tons with it...
So LCD Necrosis? Hmmm well Dell has some cheap ass TVs... Though there must be a catch No reviews... Thanks mate, already a start

Get an LCD, and make it a Samsung...end of story.
Dell's TV's, to my knowledge aren't True HD, but are "HD Ready" [you want a built in Tuner, as mentioned before, and "HD Ready" isn't the same as built in HD] For inputs, Don't bother with DVI, as everything is switching over to HDMI now, and there are several good DVI to HDMI convertors around, for about $35 for a good gold plated one. Also, pay attention to resolutions, and realize that for 1080p, you're going to be out around $3000 USD no matter what you do [for a 40" Samsung...larger then 40" will go way....way...up] |

I have a Samsung 40" LCD (40R51B) and I must say that I'm extremely happy with it. I bought it around christmas and I haven't regretted it one bit.

![]() Samsung is the best bang for the buck, and perhaps the second best screen out there. In order to beat a Samsung by a little, you have to pay double and get a Sony

If you don't want to spend a small fortune, and have the proper hardware to feed it.
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1996849,00.asp BTW, what type of access do you have to HDTV programming? |

I got only a few channels around here... Not many... Sky is still slowly adapting. As I said, I'd mostly use the TV for the Xbox360 specifcally and attach a media PC or something to it too... In Europe, HD is still slow...
![]() As for a Samsung LCD, I dunno I found this one for only 1700CHF (32") which is freakishly cheap around here. Looks sexah too. Necrosis, I have read about that specific LCD you mentioned but unfortunately, I can't find a single site around here shipping to Switzerland and I've never seen em in the shops. This country sucks ass

Amazing since we live about the same distance from where they're made. We have them every where around here. Wonder if there is any in India?

Well.. I agree on Samsung by a mile .. but I really think you should consider DLP. (unless that can't be hooked up to your computer...) DLP is the way to go.. IMHO.

now.. see.. I'd say make sure it's DLP and NOT LCD. But that's just me. DLP looks better to my eyes. Not to mention, not as much blurring with sports.

Thanks y all, I will surely get a LCD Samsung the moment I find one in the shops around here... |

VESA is the universal standard for mounting systems...if it's VESA compliant, any old wallmount will do...if it isn't VESA, you have to buy one specifically designed for that model

Samsungs new LCDs with the higher contrast ratio (3000-5000+:1) have responce times that while watching sports, has ABSALUTELY zero blur.
Plus the newest version support 1080p
