If you guys can watch "Grave of the Fireflies" (anime) or "Life is Beautiful" (Italian movie) without crying, then you truly have no heart.

UberLord will become famous soon enough

Or Watership Down, A.I. and E.T.

Even the song Bright Eyes by Art Garfunkle from Watership Down brings a lump to my throat.

Saving private ryan, ill never forget seeing that movie in the cinema, the opening scene, everyone was just holding their popcorn and not eating it.. in amazement and horror....... powerful film.

Green mile was great too.

has anyone seen Donnie Darko? craig recommended I check it out, fantastic movie, very surreal... nice imagery. I also saw one with adam sandler recently, Punch Drunk Love. excellent film. probably his best.

I like movies that are a little "different" sometimes. I get bored of big budget effects films.

I loved Saving Private Ryan also. I'm sure the old guy at the beginning is the same old guy at the beginning of the Green Mile.

I think everybody felt the same about the opening scenes in Saving Private Ryan.

Everybody was talking about it at the time, how shocking it was. I think that was the first

time I had ever really thought how terrible it must have been.

Go and see the Menin Gate in Belgium. It's more shocking than the movie. The movie gives no concept of size - the Gate with all the names brings some sense of scale. There's even a direct relative of mine whose name is on the Gate.

After the gate, take a trip around the war museum. Prepare to be shocked and moved by the poetry, the equipment, live footage in some rooms (no minors allowed).

Finally, take a trip to the nearby Cemetary. Larger area than the gate and many many many more names on tombstones. Most have names, some have the infamous "Unknown Soldier". Some just record the name of the unit. When you get to the centre of the cemetary, you'll notice that the tombstones are no-longer in neat rows - they mark where the bodies actually were in a hap-hazard form.

Every day at 8pm, the Last Post is sounded at the Menin Gate. Every day, at the same time, without fail - except during the German occupation during World War II. Every day there is a large crowd to see this - there's no talking as no-one wants to spoil the moment.

Menin Gate

Alternatively, read about the Accrington Pals. A batallion from Accrington, a small village in the North of England where most of the male population was killed on the same day fighting for their country.

I have no wish to see any museums for World War III - and no movie can replace the feeling you get when you actually go to places like these.

I work about 5 miles from Accrington, a couple of the people I work with actually live

there. It's strange how I have never heard of the Accrington Pals before. I'm gonna ask a

few questions the next time I'm at work

Excellent, now I can sign up for the Republican Party

jk

I only saw The Green Mile once, and I truly liked it.
I know this because when I entered the theatre, it was bright outside, and upon leaving, it was quite dark . . . and the film did NOT FEEL LONG.
A film really makes the grade when it it longer than 100 minutes, but I don't notice at all.

As for the matter of weeping . . . wasn't the end of the film when the old man finishes his story, and shows his lady friend the old Mouse?
Well, that certainly didn't move me
The only part I got misty-eyed was when the poor Frenchie fellow went through that horrible execution

Now I want to see this film again

"Life is Beautiful" is Fellini's "La dolce vita?" Didn't see it, but I did see "La strada"...

I found out a bit more about the Accrington pals from people at work. Anybody who lives

in the NW of England will have heard of Accrington bricks. A memorial has been built in

the Sheffield Memorial Park near the village of Serre, the Somme, Northern France using

these bricks.

Read about it here

I just watched through "Band of Brothers" in the States and defintely flat out cried. A few days later I phoned me grandpa up and talked with him about his part serving on a destroyer in the Mediterranean from spring of '43 to spring of '46. Truly my hero...
