Is This the Stupidest Criminal Ever?

It's all actually very true. No one could make this up.

Bainbridge [Georgia] has established what has to be the most stupid criminal anywhere.

At about 5am Thursday morning, Captain Robert Humphrey, PSO Kenneth Ellison and Deputy Eddie Williams was in the Inland next to the Charter House. Their police cars were all parked on the south side of the store.

So in the opposite door of the store a black male comes in with his face covered with a shirt and puts a gun in the face of the clerk demanding his money. The clerk was in the process of cashing up and the robber grabbed the $30 or so off the counter.

Then he heard Captain Humphrey yell at him "Drop It" and looked up to see three policemen with guns drawn not 15 feet from him. I would love to have seen his face then.

The robber ran out the door with the officers behind him. He lost most of his $30 and his gun directly behind the store and ran towards the Charter House. He ran to the back of the hotel into the wooded area and then headed south behind the Jameson Inn. Deputy Williams had gone that way to cut him off.

Now the thief looked up and saw the Deputy with his gun raised directly at him. So he turned around still running. He found a hole in the fence and cut through to Longleaf Drive. By this time PSO's Robert Brice and Jon Harrison had responded to this area. The man was chased down and captured in the back yard of a residence.

The robber was identified as Kevin Close. Investigator James Dollar was called to the scene.

And, this guy is from the town just above me here. I don't think he's going back home anytime soon.

[EDIT: In case you missed it, the COPS were already INSIDE the store BEFORE the guy entered. ]

Truthfully, why does that make him the dumbest criminal ever? I really don't get it, is there something I missed? That happens all the time in California.

You mean people walk in and try to rob a store with FOUR cops standing 15 feet away? Are you sure? If so, I'm never visiting Cally.

yea, it happens. I'm pretty sure all the dumb criminals try their luck here after they are done with their original states.

How about checking for N. Longleaf Drive in BAINBRIDGE, GA using Yahoo Maps?

I have no idea what the purpose of this question is, though. But, I just got a screenshot of the map and can post it if you need it for proof.

Sorry the paper looked like it was written by a girl in grammar school so it seemed suspect. Didn't realize that the website is a "community newspaper".

A similar thing happened in that town I used to live in (or actually the town 3 minutes south of the town I used to live in).

A man decided it was a good idea to steal some medicine from a small pharmacy. The medicine was narcotic and controlled, I don't know whether he planned to sell it or use it or both (probably the first option judging by his behavior). So he and his girlfriend park there car outside, she waits in the car for a getaway and he walks into the pharmacy with a gun...right past the marked police car.

So he walks in, right past the uniformed cop (who also happened to be a good friend of ours) buying his prescriptions. The guy pulls out the gun and demands the medicine. Naturally the police officer who is right there pulls out his gun and tells the crook to drop his (in the meantime the store is calling for more police).

The crook has the natural response: he turns to shoot the gun at the cop. So the cop jumps behind a counter, shooting the guy in the arm in the process. Soon after more police arrive (the pharmacy in question is about 10 blocks from a police station), takes the guy to the hospital and arrests the girlfriend. When they checked the gun the crook had tried to aim at the cop that earned him a gunshot wound of his own, they found out it was a toy. He had been threatening the cop with a toy gun.

Actually, after I got to thinking about it, I remembered a few years ago another really dumb criminal act right near where I was working at the time.

I was doing a home remodel/repair job and a few blocks away a new Race Trac gas station/convenience store was being built.

Well, the store opened and was only open for about two weeks when some guy walked in with a bandana tied so as to cover his nose and mouth. He kept his 'gun hand' in his coat pocket and demanded money. The cashier gave him what he asked for.

He quickly left, jumped into a pickup truck and started south from the store.

Well, only a few seconds later, one of the co-workers told the manager, "I guess you can call the police now. That was my Dad."

They caught him about a mile and a half away after the daughter gave them an excellent description of her dad and his pickup truck.

Stupid jerk...and very sad story, really.

well I saw a guy who tied his truck to a wall next to a safe. His plan was to rip out the wall and steal the safe. Only thing is when he drove away it ripped off his bumber with his liscence plate on it.

Also another guy was caught stealling from a neighbor by using his driver's liscence to try and open the door, when that snapped in half he kicked the door down leaving his ID on the floor.

And we all can't forget this guy. He drove right by where my father used to live.
