T9 predictive text
Does anyone here have tried using this t9 predictive text in cell phones? Some says it's the easiest way to make quick SMS messages. does it really works?

i don't use t9. i find it awful. the reason why, is because it can't always predict the correct word that you will be using. i just simply type out every single letter out individually. i'm quite good at it too
. the only thing that slows me down is when i have to press the same button twice =\.@ Stick: dunno if that "dictionary" mode you're talking about is the same as the t9 we are, but it basically predicts whatever word you will be using next before it's finished being typed out. |

I think I use motorola itap english. It's really good and I only have to painfully spell out words it doesn't know like restaurant names or people's last names. Even on common collisions like "in" and "go" you just have to press the right arrow key if it predicted the wrong one. Win.

I use predictive text (whatever one my V3i has), and once you've plugged in people/places you use regularly it works really well.

lol (about Sweden)
Now, as for the T9, I don't like it. I have it turned off all the time. 2 reasons, 1) it almost never gets the word I want to and I end up with a totally different word on screen. 2)Half my sms are in greenglish which of course are not supported by T9, thus making it impossible to send the message I want to.

Never understood why people don't use T9 it rocks. It don't like the dictionaries that predict the rest of the word as i type, they're annoying, T9 on my Nokia works by giving you the word that matches the number of keys you've pressed, and the combination of letters each key represents hello would be 43556, if that wasn't the word i wanted hitting * shows me all the other words that can be made from the letters available from 43556.
I hate not being able to use it

its definately faster and isn't that hard to get used to (my mum can use it)
It's annoying when it gets the wrong word but you just scroll till you find it. I would say there are a load less key press's needed to type out the same conversation using it. |

the other thing is that once you've used it a while and gotten used to it, even when people send you txts with words wrong, I find I read them fine without thought. example: I forever get "I'm on my way good." I've been txting long enough that I don't even go uh? I just know that it's supposed to be 'home'

I love T9 except apparently Sony is run by a bunch of puritans. No word that comes anywhere CLOSE to a swearword or racial slur gets into there. Cock was even taken out. What if im a farmer?!?! Jeez.
Course you can program them in yourself but thats a pain. Especially since I know the Verizon phones with t9 have all sorts of colorful words programmed in. *grumble*

Thanks for the quick replies. Now my only problem is that it doesn't recognises a lot of names and some words. Ive found the t9 site i hope could learn more about this very cool feature.

The predictive text on my phone is rather annoying. After every word it tries to add an s or some ending that won't make sense at all. I've gotten used to it, so i just always hit the down arrow to cancel it out on the word

I have the T9 that goes by the number of button presses rather than predicting what you want (as mentioned earlier) but unlike a lot of people I can't add words, and mine doesn't have crap as far as tech/popular terms go. So if a friend sends me something funny, the closest thing to "lol" that I can type in T9 is "heh". "Haha" turns into "gag" etc.
So yes, I use it, but I wish I could add words. Also I find myself typing out longer statements to make them make more sense. Or even words. I can't type "PC" but I can type "Computer." Or another example is my friend Lecia, I can't type Lecia, I can't type Alecia, so I end up typing Alisha (which is in its dictionary)

I learned something on that T9 site, after pressing 1 for a full stop, I could then press the * key to cycle through the punctuation marks. Makes text messaging so much easier now.
